EasyJet Baggage rules - Confusing.

Rules have again changed. There appears to be a charges for the locker (max 56 x 45 x 25) and for under seat (max. 45 x 36 x 20).

The first one is clear, a wheelie bag within these dimensions in the overhead locker.

The second isn't.

If I've booked a wheelie bag, does one need to also book an under seat for anything that goes on the floor? A handbag for example?

Don't want to get it wrong at the airport ...

Can anyone help?

Actually pretty clear from their website, you get both.

Edit: Flakk was quicker than me

My interpretation is that there is not a charge for the under-seat bag, and therefore you do not need to pre-book it.

This is what has confused me. The booking shows 1 large cabin bag AND 1 under seat bag.

Thanks for your help!

That's correct, that's included in all fares.

You can bring a larger bag into the cabin if you add that option or if you book an "up front seat"

You can book an even larger bag in the hold as a further option.

Sometimes they check, just make sure your larger cabin bag is within the dimensions and weight limitations, otherwise it too goes into the hold and costs an extra 100 Chf approx. at the airport.

Interesting, recently came back from a trip on EasyJet and we did not pay for any baggage charges and instead brought a small bag (smaller than 45 x 36 x 20 cm) to put under the seat.

What I noticed however was that there was no control over larger bag sizes (max. 56 x 45 x 25 cm) which you pay additional fees for - no one controlled this which left me thinking you could merely show up with a larger bag to bring into the cabin without paying any fees

Most of the time the boarding staff check them.

I think the charging per ticket is clear. There are 3 ticket prices: cheap=somethting under facing seat, not so cheap = cabin luggage, expensive = suitcase in the hold.

But if you buy cheap and turn up with cabin luggage holding your boarding pass .. what then ? I don't think the boarding pass has the details of what type of ticket you bought, the staff would have to check against your booking. Or is that what they do at the gate ? If so, are they doing that for everyone with cabin luggage ? And how would they charge you at the gate ? Or would they not let you on ?

That’s an absolute exception and I highly recommend to follow the rules 100%. I have seen them controlling the bag size at every single flight I took with them the last two years. To the point that I am convinced that the boarding crew is getting incentivized - or a kickback - of all the fees they collect… they could not have been more anal about bag sizes if they tried.

Here is a pro tip: If you use EJ a lot - there are now special trolleys for sale in the exact measurements of the “small cabin bag”. They have a big sticker on them “Easy Jet approved size”… so you probably wont have much discussion about that one: https://www.manor.ch/de/shop/gepaeck…bags&size=45cm

With a portable credit card machine... the one they use to sell you drinks onboard. Seen it many times.

For such a small size, I find better to use a backpack. You can buy them off Amazon for a fraction of the price.

I flew a few times with them last year and they do check at the gate and charge extra (I guess your boarding card has a code). I saw quite a few people charged extra because they tried to bring more, or bigger, bags than they had booked.

It may very well be but it was the case on both legs so it wasn't exceptional by airport - it does not reflect anything on your ticket and I saw no effort whatsoever to make checks apart from Speedy vs non-speedy boarding

Quick scan of the bar code on your boarding card and they have your shoe size and inside leg measurements.

Hold suitcase is only a couple of €/£/Fr more than a cabin bag, has more weight allowance and saves you security hassle (particularly liquids).

For 2 people, one 23Kg hold suitcase costs much less than two 10Kg carry on bags.

I was at Edinburgh last Friday afternoon for the EJ flight to Basel. Luckily it wasn't that busy because some people were really pushing the upper limit with the size of the bags they were taking on. I've noticed that a number of times. When we go to Scotland we travel light, we're going back to our own house so we have clothes there. We have the dark blue cabin size bags IKEA did years ago, it's a shame they stopped selling them as they're really lightweight.

All of our stuff including laptop bags and my handbag have to go in the overhead locker, OH books the emergency seats for the leg room as he has a lower back problem. We have EasyJet Plus as well, I get a bit nervous at airports in long security queues.

I fly EJ quite a bit and have found that an EasyJet Plus membership (£215 annually) makes sense. The main benefits are
Speedy boarding Priority security (where avail) Priority bag drop desk Extra cabin bag i.e. trolley Choice of seats Free transfer to earlier flight

That definitely depends if the flight looks rammed they quite often start getting very picky about measuring the bags. There used to be one particular woman at Zurich on a Friday night who used to be lethal for getting people to pay(I get Easyjet at least 20 times a year between Zurich and UK).

Agreed - I have that too and its worth every penny.

Not in these cases either where a molecule of storage space wasn’t left available on both legs. Not sure I’ve ever been on EJ flight that wasn’t packed
