Looking for electrician/handyman to install outdoor antenna on roof of house in Winterthur ( LoRan antenna)

I doubt you need an electrician to install it. At most to connect it but ...

I know it doesn't answer your question - but how hard was it to get permission to put an antenna? Looking at putting a dipole up for the radio and been told I need to get planning/building permission for that... but have no idea how hard to get it that is.

Your Gemeinde (Bauamt) should have a checklist for things that you need to submit. Ask them if it can be done using the simple process (einfaches Verfahren) for which you basically have to get the signature of your neighbouring landowners (not tenants) and then it goes quicker.

You will probably need to submit plans from all angles and of course dimensions such as height.

Generally, flagpoles don't need planning permission, so why not camouflage it at the top of a flagpole?

Does it have to be on the roof?

You may be able to bypass the paperwork by setting it up inside the house. That includes the balcony as long as the antenna is within its railing.

Don't have a space that big Looking at 10m dipole (20m wavelength). Indoors isn't ideal...

My current though process is two small spikes on either side of the house on the vertex of the roof and then a wire between those. Should look enough like one of those snow-stoppers that it may pass unnoticed... Otherwise in the loft, but I'll get a lot less signal there

Things being allowed on the balcony if within the railing - would this apply also if the thing is higher than the roofline?

I ask as I'm also looking to put an antenna on the balcony. My balconies are on the top floor, and the roof only extends over half of the balcony. So, I could put up a fan half-wave vertical (DX Commander) but about 3m of the antenna would poke above the roof line.

I would expect that what I would like to do is not possible without the explicit permission of the building management/owner, but it would be good to get some confirmation before I go and ask for the permissions. If I ask for permissions, I'll be asking for the ability to use the roof for a temporary antenna.

From what I can tell within my group of DX friends, no. Anything which raises the "height" of your building (even by 1cm), needs permission from the council (planning permission - not just building owner permission).

Something which can be visible from the road, in some cases, will also need permission (depends on your building).
