You all forgot the category:
“Likelyhood of encountering creatures that can kill you”

No contest there at all.

Cows kill more people in the UK per year than sharks kill people in Australia.

(Although Australia has its fair share of fatalities from cows too!)

Snakes kill between 200-400 people every day globally. But in Australia, it is only 2 deaths per year. I am more worried about Aussie drivers than sharks.

Aussies are friendly too, no? (I always had this impression - Aussies, Canadians, Americans, British are generally friendly, well of course there are people and people like everywhere).
Anyways, he/OP wouldn’t move for the people but for the warmer climate and the language. :winking_face_with_tongue:

Yes, but Kiwis are next level

There are similarities to Switzerland in New Zealand:

Nice! Maybe that’s the place for OP then, who knows?

Just the females :squinting_face_with_tongue:

I just checked, there is no direct flight to New Zealand from the EU/Switzerland. You have to transfer either in London or somewhere in Asia.

Or North America, including Air Canada who offer a transfer without immigration formalities…

I think the route via Canada will be much longer as we are travelling the oposite direction!

You would be surprised.
From Geneva to Auckland via London and Vancouver is 19,692 km while via Zurich and Singapore it’s 18,949 km. The world is round.

Perhaps also take into account that the earth is turning making the difference even less.

When Air New Zealand still flew to London they did it by Los Angeles, as it is shorter.

You are right - if measured by time. It is quicker flying East rather than West due to the Jet stream which flows west to east.
It can shave many hours off the journey.

Again, following the Jet stream.

They do fly the other way too of course but it’s slower and Los Angeles is a popular stop-off point which they need to do as they cannot fly the whole way in one go.

Connection times matter.

Usually, most flights from Switzerland to US or Canada leave between 10h00 and 14h00. This schedule does not necessity align with a short connection for the following flight. Flight schedule from America to NZ is set to cater the local passengers, not connecting ones.

In the other direction, flights depart in the afternoon/evening and the airlines try to optimize connection times because they’re fully aware passengers are not starting their travel in HK, Singapore or Doha.
