I see that Switzerland has a fancy electronic system for registering an address change:
https://www.eumzug.swiss/eumzug/
Has anyone used this? What does it actually do? The FAQ has answers on various technicalities but doesn’t explain which systems are updated by using it. Does it just update records at the gemeinde or is it more than this? I have googled around but haven’t found any information beyond “this thing exists”. 🤷
Only for the commune/cantonal change of address.
It saves you a trip to city hall/local community building.
If you want a service that informs a bunch of company's like your insurances, bank and such and/or make sure you don't miss out on letters than Swisspost has a nice service for that.
Excellent, thanks for clarifying. I already found the post.ch services (hence confusion over exactly what eMovingCH does).
Alternatively, it took 2min to re-register and 7min to register at the local Gemeinde, probably faster than going through all the online stuff
The Post service, personally I avoided it. I'd make sure to let anyone YOU actually want to know about your move being aware of it, and anyone else should get their mail returned.
While obviously the Post service is cheap/free (forward mail does cost, forward spam is free ) it's quite a good thing to actually reduce your amount of unwanted messages.
Even if I sometimes would like to know how many letters were returned to their senders (and if any would have actually been welcomed by myself) I still enjoy having literally eliminated SPAM by 99%.
