EMS training

When looking at gyms, I saw reference to EMS training which I never heard of before. A bit of googling and it seems to be something where you wear a suit with electrodes which then directly stimulate your muscles.

Any of you used this? Did it have any benefits?

OMG yes, I got 6 sessions for an Xmas gift a few years ago. It’s a lot of fun but it’s deadly hard. The electrodes seem to interfere with your muscles so it makes everything so much harder, even just moving.

I would have carried on with it but the cost (at the time) was silly money.

The slight ick is that you have to put on the electrodes suit when they are wet. Shudder…

I found them to be horrible… like repeated pin pricks with various intensity.

My preference is tried and proven sweaty workouts …

Broke my left arm many years ago. EMS was part of the physical therapy process. I’d say not much help because I had external bracing and thus never stopped moving (low risk of muscle atrophy). The infrared light and the electric heater felt much better and helped to move the fingers with dexterity once again. AFAIK, EMS is for recovery from big injury, not normal training.

Some gyms also work as physical therapy centers because trainers got the formation. They can read prescriptions from orthopedists and design a workout plan for them, etc. So, is EMS part of the physiotherapy or the gym business? The confusion may arise because the same person may work as gym trainer and physical therapist.
