Engine & chassis cleaning for expertise near Lausanne

Dear all,

After owning a car here for several years I am finally called for the contrôle technique in two weeks. I understood that the bottom of the car is supposed to be spotless or I get send back so to be sure everything is fine I would like this to be done professionally. Not being familiar with the local garages until now I am however not sure which one offers a good service for a fair price and would therefore like to ask some advice . Do you have any recommendations for a 'Lavage moteur et chassis' in the Lausanne region?

Thanks!

I would challenge the logic and folklore of doing this - i.e. to what level the bottom and engine area of the car needs to be "spotless" to pass an inspection

Depends on the age and wear on your car, but unless you are driving into muddy roads and have loads of caulked stuff on your chassis then it's probably an overkill. Same for the engine, you want it clean to not have visible leaks of oil or other liquids I think, not to remove any and each speck of dust. Mind you, it's not like Swiss roads are inducing to accumulating dirt anyway.

Most that I would do is maybe lift the car on one of the self-wash lifts and do a jet wash splash underneath... And wipe the engine area manually. Have a 10-year old car that passed inspection twice just by doing that...

P.S. If you generally are worried about passing the inspection better would be to go to a garage to do a pre-inspection check, they would also sort out the engine and chassis cleaning but more importantly fix anything that may need fixing.

Give Garage Rumine a call

Any garage can do it. Shop around for the best price.

It doesn't need to be spotless this is a myth created by ex pats.

It needs to be clean so it can be inspected and any leaks can be seen.

If you got money to burn, ask a garage to do the expertise for you, if not, do it yourself it is really easy.

Thanks a lot for advice. I went to check out Hydrowash in Montblesson last weekend (expertise is this Wednesday) and will go there again just before the expertise to make sure everything is as clean as possible. When trying the car was I noticed the oil leak from the rear main crankshaft seal which was supposed to be resolved already... Fingers crossed a quick cleanup just before might be enough (there is not enough time to fix it anymore) but I am afraid I might have to come back another time...

If you're a member of the TCS, you can also get the expertise done at one of their centres.

It costs a little bit more than at the official place, but they are much more relaxed about clean engines and chassis etc

No need to be a member. TCS testing places are open for anyone.

Fundamental rule for buying used cars: too clean autos are suspect. I am sure people at the inspection follows the same rule.

You can only do this if you haven't been invited back for your MFK. Once you've received the invitation for your MFK, you need to do it at the official test station.

Not true. Once you get the invite you can still change to a private provider such as TCS, or AGVS

In some cantos you can actually only go to TCS once you got the invite for the periodic inspection.
