Hi everyone,
I will have to make a job interview in August in Mezzovico, 20 km far from Lugano. So far I have a pretty good idea of the salaries in the German part of Swiss. But honestly no idea about the salay for 1 year experienced engineer in Lugano... I was told near Bern it can be something like 75000 CHF. Can I ask something similar? or it is too much for Canton Ticino? I would not want to give the interviewer a "bad idea" of me, asking for a salary too high.....
Thank you very much
Ticino usually has lower salary; i think from 10 to 20% than Zurich area.
Hi, I understand.....but the life costs, I guess are lower than Zurich (Number.com says everything in Zurich is at least 25/30% more!!). Anyway, I don't know what we'll have to talk about on August.
Anyway, I still have to make the first interview, then keep calm!!
It also depends on your negotiating position... how much are you earning now etc...
I wouldn't worry too much they will have a standard salary (probably very good if they are an international comp with a big workforce north of the alps)
Just tell them... I'm sure a company of your reputation will offer a reasonable / competitive compensation...
also be careful with your english
swiss = adjective svizzero
Switzerland = proper noun Svizzera
one year of experience is effectively no experience and you're basically a recent grad (which was already mentioned in your last thread). Entry-level salaries with a proper uni degree across Switzerland are between 65-75k. Anything they offer within that range is a decent salary.
And lower salaries in Ticino have nothing to do with there being many - as you put it yourself "stupid" - Italians. The salaries are lower because the standard of living is lower than in the larger cities in both the German- and the French-speaking part. That's all.
i think you mean cost of living... clearly Ticino has a much higher standard of living than the rest of Switzerland ;-)
Doh, I did not know Swiss was the adjective....epic fail, thanks for the advice...my English is not perfect I know, feel free to correct me
Now I know I am not the only italian guy in this forum! It's not that bad, considering the italian recession. Anyway, I really want to start a new experence abroad. Switzerland was not my first choice, since I have a girlfriend living and working in Nuremberg
Let's see what is going to happen; at least I know what to answer if they ask me!
Already tried! It was just to have an idea. I do not care so much about the money, once I can learn and do the job I like. But I am always a bit scared when I have to talk about Switzerland because It's quite hard for me to understand if the salary is enough to survive!!
Oooops, unfortunate typo Of course I meant cost
But hasn't this question been covered at length in your other thread? It contains tons and tons of input including a constant reassurance that of course anything around 60-70k is far more than would be necessary to just survive and actually even allows to lead a pretty decent life in this country. I'm not really sure what more you want to hear...
This thread is like déjà vu ...
Can I live in Bern with 75000 CHF (gross)?
Still around?
However, 70.000chf in Ticino is like to have 35.000€ per year in Milano
Engineer - its so over used as to mean nothing, what job exactly do you do??
if I where you I would also consider Nurnberg (AUDI is based in Inglostadt) Munich maybe. Ticino is pretty small, no action here really. It could be that Switzerland offers a better work environment package etc, but then why not Basel, where you are closer and there is a little more movement... although its still a town really not a city like Munich.
