First it was Scones, now my local coop now has another cheddar to choose from.
This time it is a strong somerset cheddar sourced via Neals Yard Dairy , which IMHO normal has the best of British cheeses for sale (and to be recommended to anyone visiting Londons West end). It is in the Coop "Slow Food" range and having tried it, it is in a different league from the "Cathedral City" type they normal have at the cheese counter.
wow i love coop. they seem like the only civilized supermarket in my town. they even have starbucks coffee! when the nearest starbucks is over 2 hours away i care. even though i dont even like starbucks.
also they are the only place in town that sells chicken that is boneless, but still has skin. im not for bones, its barbaric...
but wow cheddar. i cant wait to show my swiss friends.
The cheese is Keens, a really great Cheddar made in Somerset, on a farm and certainly is in a very different league to Cathedral City (which I believe is made in an enourmous chemical plant in Scotland).
It is not in our local Co-op, could someone let me know what the price is if you see it? It's not listed on the Co-op web site.
Some interesting pics of the cheese being made by George Keen on this Neals Yard page (I agree Pat, Neals Yard are a must see for anyone visiting London, either at their shop in Covent Garden or at their stall in Borough market)
That is very expensive. Globus has Montgomery's Cheddar which is much better cheese again at 64 a kilo (I think). I wanted to know because I was thinking of stocking Keens next month, and I can sell it for about 50 a kilo. Thanks!
Does it actually say "self raising flour" on the packet? I ask because I was looking for it over the weekend and the assistant didn't know what I was on about.
We had a home delivery from them a few weeks ago everything was yummy , but do not order there English bacon it is expensive and lets just say not so yummy
Well for a start it is Portugese!, Brand name seems to be "Nacional" Para Bolos, Farinha Autolevedante de trigo. Comes in a 1 kg paper bag, blue and white with a picture of a cake and eggs on the front. On the side it has Portugese, Spanish, English and French description. It was down the aisle which has "odd foreign stuff", not in the baking aisle! On the till receipt it is listed as Farinha Autolev. Costs 5.10 chf. Hope this helps! It seems to work just as well as McDougals!
Your welcome i was really looking forward to having a proper bacon sandwhich and was so disapointed when i cooked it i could not eat it, don`t want anyone wasting there money like i did, but as i said before all the other stuff was really good
