I have just come to Zurich, i have a 4 year old daughter who is currently studying in India, i will like to you about availability of English medium schools in Zurich and the corresponding cost associated with it.
I have been checking in web sites and found that roughly the cost is around 24000 - 25000 CHF per annum, is there any school which is having a cost lesser to it.
Most Indians who come to CH are on short or fixed term contracts. Normally the school fees are included in the relocation costs. I believe that CHF 25K is a standard price for one of the International Schools.
If school fees haven't been included in your package, you may want to think of enrolling your child into a Swiss Kindergarden.
There are also many bi-lingual schools / nurseries but the costs will depend upon a part time / full time place.
International schools - as you noticed these tend to be expensive, and as the child gets older so the fees get more expensive. As you know the fees I guess you've seen those already.
Bilingual schools - these can be a good compromise and the child gets the benefit of an additional language
If anyone knows of any vacancies for English language teacher. Please let me know.I have worked near Zurich in a private English school for a few months and would love to work anywhere near Zurich or in Switzerland.
I am also planning to come their with 2 kids 12/14 yrs old.
As far as I searched, it's next to impossible to get a english school where fees are less than 10,000CHF.
Anyone suggest a place in vicinity of Zurich where schooling will cost less and at the same time it will not be far away from Zurich..say 1 hr journey?
Since your kids are 12/14, you have no other choice except putting them in International Schools. Because, after age of 10, here in the German Speaking schools, kids will be seggregated on their interest base (like arts, science, apprentiship, etc..) Your kid will get the least option, as will have less or no knowledge in German.
But the nightmare is, you may need to pay atleast CHF 27,000 for one kid in International Schools. So, you need to keep atleast CHF 60,000 per annum aside for their studies. If your company pays for the education, then its good. Otherwise, you have to plan before you reach here.
Few of my friends have left their kids back at home in India due to this reason
Fees are not much of difference in these schools. May be some 2000 CHF per annum it differs.
Otherwise, the rest of the schools are German speaking, where may be English is just a subject and not a medium of learning. May be some other in the forum, whose kids of age 12 - 14 studying here can guide you more.
I am having a 3 years old kid.. I would like to join her in a school..right now were staying in bern and moving to zurich.
I read all the conversation regarding english medium schools..
But Iam little bit unclear.
My question is finally is there any english medium scools available in zurich with lesser fee. I dont mind whether its bilingual also. But I need a English medium schools. I can't bear the international school fees
Please if anybody knows the information please share it..
You want to send your child to a private school but you don't want to pay the fees? I can understand that . All the private schools charge around the same extortionate fees (in the UK good boarding schools are cheaper ). There is a bilingual state Gymnasium in Zurich but that still charges fees - altough much lower - but to get in there the child would first have to go to a private bilingual school and that as you know is expensive.
Why don't you consider a state school and have your child learn a new language for free?
