Personally, I don’t speak a word of French or German, so I was very concerned if I would manage to take my driver’s license here in Lausanne.
I finally managed to get my license a few weeks ago! It was a fun journey! So now I want to share my experience and hopefully guide you in the right direction.
The biggest advice I can give to you is to make sure you have a very good instructor, who is there with you from the beginning to the end. It’s extremely important! You don’t want to be switching instructors, and finding an English speaking instructor in Lausanne is difficult enough...
I can very highly recommend the instructor I had. His name is Jean-Marie Porchet and works for Ecole du Midi in Lausanne. He’s an outstanding and professional instructor that really cares about your development. He always takes his time to genuinely teach you and he’s very fun to have too! He’s positive, helpful and he’s there for you from the beginning to the end! Without his help and guidance, I would never have managed to get my license that smoothly.
Also, he’s very flexible when it comes to your schedule. I work in Geneva so he really made an effort to accommodate my schedule. Either we would drive evenings after work, or even on the weekends if my schedule didn’t permit. He speaks excellent English, French, Italian and German, so you’re basically set
