Well, in all fairness in such tournaments I’ve always felt that each game is rather unique and different so past performance doesn’t necessarily translate into a meaningful predictor. I felt that England actually played better in the final than it did in the semi or before that (for me, the penalty in the semi was a disgrace to football). It just happens that Spain was such a coherent and well-oiled team that its hard for me to imagine anyone beating them. Should have England played against literally anyone else it might have been a very different outcome.
I also fail to understand the fetish for Kane. As soon as he was out, England’s game markedly improved.
Kane missed Bayern Munich’s last few games of the season due to a back injury, but was somehow recovered enough to start in all seven of England’s matches. It wouldn’t surprise me if he was still carrying that injury throughout the Euros but just chose to soldier on with painkillers.
I don’t recall too well, but if memory serves me right, he played quite poorly in the Real vs Bayern game in May and he was taken off. Anyways, England felt like a group of great individuals, but not really as a team. Spain looked, acted and was a real team.
Good luck and thanks for the memories. Regardless of his style of management he wore his passion on his sleeve and brought us closer to a cup than any other manager in the last half century.
Maybe he’s absolutely adoring the attention he gets from everyone here and is probably a “mild” homophobe irl…
Also, as with a lot of people on EF, I bet he wouldn’t say the things he writes here to someone’s face.
Maybe, that only shows the Premier League is overvalued. There were 27 Premier League players on the final. 3 on Spanish team, 24 on English team. Make your conclusions
