Exemption of 6 month passport validity rule to USA

Hello good peeps of EF,

Just wanted to quickly share a tip I recently discovered that may be able to alleviate some last minute panicking.

For most countries and most passports, you need to have a minimum of 6 months validity on your current passport to be able to travel across borders. With the recent tightening on immigration, one would assume this is strictly enforced for travel to USA. However, there exists an exemption in the US Customs and border protection called the Six-Month Club where citizens from a selected list of countries only need their passport to be valid for their length of stay in the US.

Most EU countries are on the list and lucky for me, Singapore too.

The good people at the Swiss check in counter were not aware of this and when they pointed out I had less than 6 months on my passport, I whipped out the below document. They even thanked me for "educating them".

Writing this from New York so you know I had no problems whatsoever entering USA.

The link provided above does not work. I wonder if this link is still valid, that is if citizens of the 6 Month Club only need a valid passport to travel to the US "for their intended period of stay".

Passports and passengers covered by the Visa waiver program do not need a minimum 6 months validity.

But, a Swiss national having a stamp from Iran in their passport, requires a visa to travel to the US. This passenger needs at least six months on their passport.

In the OP case I suspect the check in agent didn’t know that Singapore was a visa waiver country, rather than didn’t know that there are any exceptions.

That does not make any sense at all. If the agent thought Singapore is not a VWP country they had more likely commented on the absent visa stamp than the validity period of the passport.
