Expertise Recommendations

Just got a letter from the Swiss DVLC asking us to get the car expertise.

Been a while since I visited these places? Is it worth asking the garage to check the car beforehand? What happens if it fails? Do you get two weeks to fix it? Can you still drive in the meantime?

The car was new and had been serviced by BMW for the past 5 years, so not really expecting any issues.

Can some of you share your experiences?

I did this just recently.

Same scenario, had the car from new, serviced at the dealer so everything up to date. I went to the garage with my invitation and asked if there was anything I needed to do. He said no as it was up to date with services, all he did was put the summer wheels back on and said to wash in (including the chassis) the day before the appointment.

It passed with no issues at all. My appointment was at 8.10 but they too it in a few minutes earlier and I was back home by 8.30 with the test centre is a 20 minute drive away.

It’s a doddle. The only thing you can’t do in preparation is to clean the engine. Get your garage to do this for you.

You can also do it with a damp cloth. Then vacuum clean the interior and wash thee car.

I’ve been to upward of 10 expertises in Vaud. No one has ever looked at the engine beyond the underside which you can wash with a jet wash at any place where you can lift the car like near Vevey.

Don’t get garage to do it - classic Swiss money pit.
