Is it allowed to add a storey to only one unit i.e. the corner unitv? Can the neighbours object and stop us?
Thank you for any insights.

I didn’t think of a terraced house.
Pay special attention to the circumstances under which the possible objections of neighbours could carry weight, to have your application for building permission turned down. If, however, your neighbours in the row or road like the idea, and also wish to extend their own properties, you might find that a collective application has more success.
If some neighbours have already altered some aspect of their properties, you might consider speaking to them, to be in touch with the master builder or architect they used.

A colleague is in legal proceedings because the owners of the adjent house suffered structural damage during his build. Entirely the fault of the builder - who has gone dark and is probably now sipping margaritas on a beach somewhere. As the 'Bauherr', my colleague is the person ultimately left holding the bag.
So... assuming you get permission, next stop is your insurer and lawyer. Make sure you are fully covered for every possibility under the sun.
Yes, it's do-able if within community building regs and your neighbors are not opposed. But whenever your property touches another, liabilty issues skyrocket. Eyes wide.
Good luck!
