Facebook has become totally unusable

it’s totally unusable. It’s 90% ads or recommended groups to join that are usually memes for the elderly. It’s not like none of my friends are posting, if I look up names I see posts but they don’t come up on my wall. I’m surprised no one is talking about it, but I guess very few people my age are still using Facebook.

I don’t know anyone who still uses FB. Loads of people still have a profile but I don’t think it’s that popular anymore. All seems to be Instagram and Tiktok these days.

I stopped using it because of the adverts and pushing reels.

A good tip is to:

  • View friend feed only to avoid the other noise
  • Use adblockers or FB specific plug-ins to get rid of the other stuff

I used it recently to reach out to friends and relatives of my wife and share the news. First time I’ve used it in years, and it’s actually quite useful in that sort of situation.

One thing that annoyed me though is that messages that will display on the website on a laptop browser insist on using the messenger app if you’re on a phone or tablet. And that is really horrible to use. I had it installed for a week or so to ensure I didn’t miss anything, but removed it asap.

(Yes, Firefox on Android does allow one to specify “Use desktop site” but then it’s completely unusable on a phone due to the screen size and layout).

For me the most disappointing is the marketplace, to me it seems like its geolocation functionality is broken since a few years…

I stopped using it years ago. Switched to Instagram, which to be honest is getting just as bad now Meta also own it.

Curious. What’s your usage model, that Instagram could replace FB?

I always thought that the only possible use I’d have for FB is simply keeping in touch with Friends. I mean, clearly it has always been a lot more than that, but as soon as I started using it, many years ago, I found the whole “look at me” aspect of it quite tedious. Why would I be interested in their day to day lives? Why would I want anyone to be interested in mine, come to that.

Also the whole transient nature of it. Last week’s news is gone. Log in and follow your ‘feed’ every day or you might miss something.

I follow friends and family. They post photos and videos so you can see what they are up to, comment and dm. Also forward funny posts you see to friends, simple way to keep in touch.

In all my years of various social (and indeed anti-social) media I don’t think I’ve ever once deliberately clicked on the ‘share’ button. One of the many aspects I just don’t get.

See something very funny, share it with someone you think will also find it funny. Not much to get. :woman_shrugging:t3:

Its full of crap.

I still use it, probably an age thing. The last 2 cars I bought were on FB Marketplace, I used to buy on EF but left CH so was no longer useful.

FBP is your friend. Been using that for years. (Fluff busting purity).

I used that for a while and recently un-installed it as it sometimes caused issues and I rather have fewer extensions installed (which can be a security risk).
