Wow. What an incredible session with Meta connect. I’m not a believer in the Metaverse, but the Orion prototype looks like it is packing amazing technology and is in a form that might even be socially acceptable!
I watched it, unimpressed. Most of metas “solutions” don’t have a real life use case and feel like solutions looking for a problem. Maybe I’m getting old, maybe the newer generations will find this useful, I find it more cumbersome, distracting, even dangerous, to have my digital life overlapping with my real life in real time so brutally.
Impressive tech, maybe. Useful? Not for me
Unimpressed too, maybe if they come up with a Holodeck then I may be interested.
And the guy has nothing on the presentations of Steve Jobs.
Well soon kids only go to school as a hobby. The rest can live life with KI. And the latter will appear to be the smart ones.
I wonder if the human brain can keep up with living amongst holograms and the good ol’ reality (when the glasses break or the first moments in the morning).
But maybe they can just convert school buildings into mental hospitals. But who’s gonna treat them there?
Seriously, yep it’s defintely fascinating technology but belongs in the game department. Won’t find it there in 50-100 years though, I’m afraid.
But what I just thought was if I could put some glasses on which put this huge cinema screen in my otherwise normal living room, still being alert of what is going on in it and watch a movie. Yep, that would be cool, I don’t have a TV because I absolutely detest this ugly things. Yeah, I’m a real bore, Zuckerberg is definitely not aiming at me
hmmm, it could solve the housing problem: We all just rent a container for Fr. 100.00/month, put our glasses on when we come home and live in our dream house with garden.
Sorry I’m ruining a thread that was probably meant to be scientific. I’ll skedaddle.
There are some sci-fi books which cover such scenarios: people retreat into the virtual world and in ‘meat space’ they are just in a room hooked up to an IV to keep them alive.
At first, I thought it was unrealistic that people would spend all their time in a virtual world, but post-covid, we see younger generations really have anxiety of the real world and seem more comfortable in virtual worlds, so maybe it could happen.
Being old school I was more thinking about stepping out of my container that feels like the best home I’ve ever had in the mornings and mingle with you folks out there as usual.
An IV? Forget it. I mean I could have a virtual cook and gourmandize!
As you say, already started. And they will go for every new possibility in this genre.
