Does anyone have experience with facilitated naturalization while abroad, I live in the UK and have been married for 6 years, I would like to apply for naturalization but I have some question I would like to have answered such as how long it takes, what are the procedures and the type of test I will have to go through. There is the famous criterion: "close ties" to Switzerland. This is not legally defined. So some bureaucrat will decide.
Think over how you can prove your "close ties".
I did mine from the US. It was really pretty easy, just took some time. The threads evilshell listed are excellent for giving you an idea of everyone's experiences. The part that concerned me the most were the "close ties" and how to prove that. We visit family in Switzerland about every 2 years. I can make myself understood in French (barely!!). I got the distinct feeling , in my case, that the language part was not very important. I read Swiss publications and watch Swiss news on the internet. We also joined our local Swiss Club here in the US. Read through those threads, I think they will give you a lot of the information you're seeking. Good luck!

Usually there is voting rights on the village where you will receive the citizenship from, but not in your case, you will be decided federal. Canton and village only have a counseling right, but no right to dispute.
not much to worry about
I am wondering how they determine my close ties to switzerland, I joined a swiss club in London but I am not really active because I work and study (both full time) therefore I don't have much time. but I have many friends in Switzerland. Do you think I have to be active in swiss clubs in England?

One thing to establish close ties are trips to Switzerland and having Swiss friends here.
