Failed practical driving test in Zurich

yaya~

Careful with Jaja, it can be taken to mean something completely different in German.

Hi Davidx, being foreigners, we are at a disadvantage due to no family and small social circle. We are left with not much choice but to pay the expensive rates of driving schools. I've once come across an online platform that 'links' lerners with begleit-persons at much lower rates, that said, I forgot the website and need to look it up (although I haven't used their service myself). I do know a guy offering begleiter-service, send me a PM if you are interested.

If you live anywhere near Adliswil I can happily drive around with you to do some practice, but it's an automatic, not sure if you are doing the manual.

If I had a car, I would go driving with you, my test is recent enough for me to remember what they want but long enough ago for me to be allowed to help someone learning to drive. Just going for longer drives with someone is key to building your confidence. A lot of people I know had to do the test twice, including myself, I have terrible exam anxiety and made a stupid mistake in the first five minutes of the test. The examiner said my reaction to making the mistake and my driving afterward (he said we should just continue the test even though I failed) was excellent and I would have passed based on that; however, he felt I needed a few more hours and I passed on my second attempt three weeks later. I have two male friends who are now excellent drivers who had to go three times, so really, there is no shame in failing the Zurich driving test.

Not sure what the point of Tom's comment about his daughter's eight hours is, other than showing off, most people need quite a few more, especially when they are older and do not have the possibility to drive much privately. Furthermore, I presume she did not take her test in a big city with trams, trains (the Uetlibergbahn crosses one of the preferred exam routes), buses, mental cyclists, suicidal pedestrians and out of town drivers doing odd things because they are even more confused than you are; also, let us not forget the Manesseplatz...

Regarding the exam fear, it can really ruin your performance, I actually ended up downloading a hypnosis session that is meant to help you be calm during your driving test. Even it is may be hogwash, there is a lot to be said for the placebo effect. I also repeatedly visualised taking the test again and focused on how I would be calm and pass the test - it really helped! You can do this!

Thank you Kittster, for sharing your experience. Actually I do have a car that I can drive in Zurich, if there is someone with a license accompany with me. It would be very nice if you can drive with me for some hours (I am willing to pay some money, and, if you like some nice food together!). But of course, depends on your time and willingness~!

Hi.

Just a question is there any required number of hours to pass the test because I have 30 hours already. I failed two times in zurich and I need to have a gespräch so I can take my third test. I am so sad because I never booked my test ..my driving teacher booked the practical test so I just took them.. I asked her how many lessons do I need to take or do I need to continue further lesson to pass my third practical exam. ? She said u should know if you are ready or not. In my opinion she is the teacher she should know my performance if I am ready or not to take exam. That's why I have her to criticise my driving and she has to say if I am ready to take the test. She just said to me I should know it not her.

I need help to understand how strict it is here in zurich and what are the rules or major mistakes to pass. I am so depressed that it loses my confidence and I get nervous again..

Maybe as a girl I'm not tough enough. But I drive well.

If only I have a friend who can drive me sometimes would be happy and money saved. So expensive.

Thanks

No.

I think that my daughter passed after only 8 (plus some with me).

Tom

Zero. Is the number of required lesson by law.

There is a very simple solution if you are unhappy with your current driving instructor: Change to another one which is more to your likening. As you are paying good money there is no need to stick with someone which does not fit your style and needs.

PS: Do you have someone with whom you can practice in private? If you do not have a car Mobility accepts drivers with learners permit.

Addendum. The rules regarding practical exam can be found in annex 12 of the VZV.

They do? WOW.

Good info, thanks.

I don't have anyone who has a car. So mobility cars accept with only learners permit. I would love that that there will be no one to correct my wrong driving if I drive alone

Would somebody please give me some greenies for not replying to this? I deserve them, they should be awarded me by the very act of not saying anything.

Well I would love to rent mobility car. But I don't know anyone who can accompany me and correct my mistakes. I guess the best option is to really do my.best .

Thanjs

well, you know it starts with "please don't post if you can't write what I want to hear" to "get off my thread, this is a private conversation" on to "I don't want to be corrected while learning how to drive, so I will drive by myself" (it's my legal right? ) to ......

...... no I do not want to imagine to what.

To all who suffered the same fate as me and pass. I'm.so proud of you..

Dont feel bad about yourself, there is no reason to loose confidence.

Swiss are extremely demanding when it comes to driving test and Zurich is toughest place to pass one.

10 classes are definitely on the lower side. Having said that, classes alone are not enough. You need to practice plenty, get familiar with roads, rules, conditions, time zones (school, peak traffic etc). Mobility has very good plans for learners.

I failed the conversion and then two more times. Instead of taking more lessons, I started practice driving whenever I can, during lunch break with colleagues, driving friends to Ikea , any opportunity to drive.

You will pass the exam when you are ready and you are ready when you can drive stress free, confidently, in any situation.

And dont focus just on the exam, the money and time you spend now will give you safe and pleasant drives for years to come.

All the best and have fun.

Yup, that's the reason for failing, right there. It's definitely because you're a girl.

Ok just kidding, but all you can do is keep driving until you are ready for your test. If the instructor is the problem then change to a new one (provided you haven't already pre-paid for lessons).

- The person must be at least 23 years old.

- Has had the driving license for at least 3 years.

- And the license must not be a provisional one.
