I can just shake my head at how different the process is - was? - for different country categories. My spouse also came here through family reunification and at the time both of us were 3rd country citizens. But there was no verification by lawyer, no at length interview, just a normal visa appointment. I am sure that Covid-related personnel issues do not help either.

Yes absolutely, the process is nerve racking but this is how it is now. Also the lack of information and process flow does not help either. Moreover, there is no way you can track your Visa status.
