Hi, we’re coming up to our first summer holiday season since arriving in Switzerland and are looking for some good vacation options for two adults and two under 5s. Corona means we’re unlikely to want to fly anywhere, and a friend has suggested camp sites (the ones with mobile homes) in France as a good option, as they tend to cater for kids better than Switzerland. Has anyone any experience of these, and/or could recommend any in driving distance of Lausanne / Geneva? Or any other options that might be good for children and that might give us parents a break from them? We’re thinking lots of guided activities for them, but open to any suggestions. Thanks in advance!
Check eurocamp.co.uk
There are 5-6 campsites within a 2 hour drive on their website and they can be really cheap depending on dates..
Off top of head, Domaine de Chalain, less than an hour away over the jura, big site with kids entertainment, water park and indoor pool, resto, bar, lake with beach, choice of accommodation from take you own tent to 3 bedroom air-conditioned mobile homes..
Annecy has a bunch of sites too which are just an hour away, Les Fontaines is a good one.
Open google maps and type 'camping' in the find nearby box.. Loads..
We've been doing these sort of camping with the kids for years.. They love it, freedom to run around. We give them a walkie talkie and see them later.
One advantage of eurocamp is that you pay that price and that's it.. Often booking direct with the site you must pay a deposit and cleaning fee and a booking fee.
Thanks for this, much appreciated. Just looking through some of the Eurocamp options, one of the kids is 6 months under 4 years old, which is the minimum age for most of the activities. I’ll email one or two to see how much flexibility there might be. Does food tend to cost a lot at these places? Thanks again!
Activities depend on site and season really . The main "led activities' stuff is just July/Aug with less out of season.. They tend to have different age groups, for under 5s they sometime ask that parents are nearby but it's normally pretty lax..They don't check ID, it's just turn up and play. Ours have been going from 3 years old. These are generally not all day activities, could be anything from 1-2 hours, sometimes half day.. Varies..
Another good site is La Pergola, on the Lac de Chalain again, run by CapFun.. They had full on kids clubs from morning until kids disco at night..
Activities are run by the sites, not eurocamp so best check direct.
Food generally costs peanuts compared to CH prices.. Snack bars, think 5-6 euro sausage and fries.. Resto prices are half of CH prices.
