Family relocating from the UK

Hello,

We have recently moved over from the UK and are currently based in Basel while we look for accommodation in the Hegenheim area. I have a 2 year old son and would be grateful for any information on toddler groups I can attend with him to meet other Mum's. Also I'd like to find out about where's the best place to take French lessons.... just a few things to sort out!

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Welcome Joyran, while I cannot answer any of your questions I know there are plenty of people here that can. Just wanted to welcome you to Switzerland!

Thank you! All seems a bit daunting at the moment but really appreciate how helpful and friendly people are.

Little Blessings is an English-speaking day care for small children which is open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8:45 until 12:30. Snacks are provided. My wife works there, and currently I believe there are spaces.

Coffee Morning with Kids is a special time of conversation and sharing each Tuesday morning at 9 - 11. Mothers of young children are invited to come with their children (up to 5 years old) to this support group to build relationships with other women who are sharing the same experience.

These two are on the premises of Crossroads International Church, which is on the third floor of Reinacherstrasse 129, Basel CH-4053, which is SE basel, near M-Parc, Leimgrubenweg.

Wow thank you so much for the info. It's great to know that there are groups out there for people like me

I'm definitely going to try them out - thank you!

Hi,

Check out the BCT group - I think your little one fits into the bumps and bruises group.

Yes she does and is a lovely lovely lady who my 3 year old is extremely fond of, as are the other two playgroup leaders. Would warmly recommend this playgroup although if you have come from a playgroup experience in the UK of idyllic surroundings and large garden for the kids to play in, do not be at first put off by the setting ... they are only there a couple of sessions a week and what they lack for in surroundings is more than compensated by the care and fun the children have!

(NotAllThere I'm guessing your wife from the pantomine connection???)

Otherwise look up the Basel Childbirth Trust which offer a wealth of activities and chances to meet and play with other mothers and children in similar positions. Also there is a playgroup held in St Louis for english speaking carers and children on the first Wednesday of the month. It is always advertised on the bulletin board of the BCT website and is a drop-in group so pencil in the first Wednesday of the month after you arrive to meet other France based mothers!

Welcome to France/Basel and feel free to PM me if you have any other queries

Elizabeth

You're new here aren't you?

Welcome Jo Ryan (?) From which place do you come from?

There is loads of stuff here. Best to learn how to use the search function.

Great - thank you all so much for your help and advice. I will definitely look into joining all the groups as I'm sure it'll be a great way to meet new people.

Thank you!

I'm from Horsham in the UK....
