Fancy Dress in Basel

Help !!! Does anyone know where you can buy bits'n'pieces towards a fancy dress costume, or suggest somewhere where I can hire a costume? I am aware of Kostume Kaiser near Aesch ... and yes their stuff is excellant ... but very expensive.

Any other suggestions/ideas?

You some get some bits from a shop a just over the river in Kleinbasel. If you cross the middle bridge it is on the first road on the right, on the 1st floor above a bar "Grenzwert".

I have had no luck finding anything for dressing up 70's 80's style. I will try the shop Pat mentioned above but anyone else have suggestions as I need it by Saturday

Hi Mimi,

I like your good self, left things to last minute solved the problem by heading to the cheap-er clothing stores around the clarastrasse area. I had to dress up as a dance instructor for a murder mystery, so opted for a John Travolta look alike. I managed to get a white suit (admittadly it was ladies, but you could tell), plus tacky gold chain, black shirt and cheap tacky looking sunnies all for about 60francs. The end result looked REALLY good and a hell of a lot cheaper than the fancy dress stores.

While looking for alternatives, I assembled this list of fancy dress type places ... just in case:

A bunch of us hired 4 muskateer outfits from this place earlier this year and headed to Langenthal. The costumes were first rate (did not look like something fashioned from a pair of curtains) ... were of extremely high quality ... sort of thing that film & theatre would use ... muskateer outfit was 200 francs. Beware of telling them what it is really for ... don't think they like the idea of you wearing it to a street party in Langenthal.

Only downside (apart from the price) is their opening times.

If you cannot read German (like my goodself) then I use Google.co.uk, enter the URL shown above and then click on translate this page ... works quite well.

Hope this is of some help.
