Fasnacht? and other festivals in Zurich?

I have been hearing about very interesting festivals around Switzerland and I am especially interested in the ones in Zurich.

Is there an area on EF that has a list of festivals per Kanton or City and a calendar?

Does Zurich celebrate Fasnacht? If so when?

When is the festival to celebrate the end of winter when they burn a large straw man in Zurich?

When is the parade for the Guilds in Zurich?

I have been told to avoid Neierdorf (sp?) the down town area, on May 1st. due to crowds of people who target large banks and high end store chains to smash window and cause over all damage. Sounds very "unswiss" to me.

Cheers,

The Catholic towns tend to have a much more impressive festival!

My guess would be all that Catholic guilt needs to come out somehow, ( OK OK it has been a very long time since this puppy went to confession... so maybe it my guilt )

Thank you very much for the helpful links. Much Appreciated.

Here is an Event Calendar for all of Switzerland from Switzerland Tourism.

Has anyone been to the Zurich Fasnacht Parade in past years? Is it worthwhile? Would you recommend it? I know it's on today, starting 2.30pm.

Haven't been to the Zurich Faschnacht however the Winterthur parade is a good one which is on today at 1400 in the old town. I plan on going as I want to get some nice photos of it which I did last year but looking to try a new lens on the camera today.

Ya, have been to Zurich Parade last year. My kids enjoyed. So planning to go today as well. Cant compare with other parades as I have not been to any other in Switzerland.

Any fasnacht celebrations happening now are protestant, unless it's called "Altefasnacht."

Fasnacht during lent is something heathens do.
