Fast-track C permit in Zurich for non-EU

Dear all,

I know there are quite a number of threads on this but I could not find anything specific to this situation. Forgive me if this is cross-posting and I would appreciate it if you can direct me to another thread if that is the case!

I am trying to find out the rules & requirements for fast-track C permit in Zurich.

-I am Turkish (non-EU/EEA)

-I live in Zurich.

-I am in my 5th year on B permit.

-I have a contract for 3 more years (so *not* a permanent contract) at ETH.

-I have B2 German from Goethe institute.

Any thoughts or advice on the possibility for a fast-track C permit? It seems I can technically apply for it but I wonder what I need for the application to work =)

Thanks!

Are you employed or are you a PhD or a postdoc? In your position at ETH what will you be?

I am employed at ETH as a senior researcher. I should also note that I moved to Zurich from Bern 2 years ago (I spent 3 years in Bern at UNIBE as a post-doc)

I am employed at ETH as a senior researcher and will continue to be so. I should also note that I moved to Zurich from Bern 2 years ago (I spent 3 years in Bern at UNIBE as a post-doc)

On the Zurich migration website - https://www.zh.ch/de/migration-integ…willigung.html they note that 5-year rules only apply to a certain number of countries … perhaps it doesn’t work for Turkey …

All is explained in this document:

It all depends on the type of permit you are having. I would assume that a senior researcher still holds a permit for educational purposes. Is there anything with "Ausbildung" under the Anmerkungen section of your B permit? If so, you are not eligible for the fast-track C application as a non-EU citizen, as you would need to hold a normal B permit for at least two years before you can apply.

If you have a work B permit (Berechtigt zur Erwerbstätigkeit) for at least 2 years and not the "student" permit (Ausbildung mit Erwerbstätigkeit), then you have good chances of getting ta C. You are definitely entitled to the fast-track application, the list of exempted countries is for the normal (non fast-track) procedure.

I am in a similar situation (non-EU, working at ETH on a limited contract), but I unfortunately got an L permit for the two years in Zurich and I have to convince authorities to count those two years which is not easy (has been already rejected).

I will be following for the updates. I will be in the same shoes (hopefully) in 5 years.
