Right, this was the dream week in Scotland: "proper" rain, cosy pubs with log fires, Whisky...yes, Sir! Plenty and of course catching up with friends and family. I hired a car from Europcar at Edinburgh Airport for a little "Whisky distillery tour " in the Highlands and when I returned it, they inspected it, gave me the all clear, I double checked with them (never quite trusted Car Rental people) and I got one page to sign on an i-pad.
A couple of hours later, I get a mail with pictures telling me the front tyre was "cut" with yellow paint on the alloy etc.
They said I would incur a charge on my credit card. All weird because I never hit anything nor did I park anywhere near a pavement, let alone anything with yellow paint. I vehemently complained about the fact I had the all clear and therefore had not been able to physically and visually assess the damage claimed and was dubious to receive a 4 page document with my signature when I was only shown and given one page to sign.
Their customer service got in touch saying it was not the right protocol and that all was fine, no damage had been observed and two days later I get a claim for 160 GBP for a "split" tyre. How on earth I would have managed to cross the Highlands West to East with a split tyre is beyond me.
Before you have a go at the Scots (I know some of you cheeky buggers!), the staff was actually English and in one case East European or something (no reflection on you Musikchick...before you shoot me!)
Yep, was caught out once with tyre damage and the bill was astronomical. Next time I ever have tyre damage, I'll get it repaired at garage myself and not tell them- and tyres and rims are not covered by CDW either!
But in this case, as they did not notice and signed the release doc- I would fight it all the way - go to WHICH if necessary.
Anyway, which was your favourite Did you pop in to the LochNess Distillery?
Glad you're okay and nothing untoward happened to you and yours when on the road with a spilt tire, McTAVGE.
I once drove for a full day with a huge nail jammed into my front tire.. knew the farm it happened in the evening before and only noticed it when I was about to open my front door 24 hours later.. on the motorway and everything
I might like my beer and whisky but I never drink and drive. I made sure I stayed within walking distance of each distillery. Heaven! I took some little gems back.
