does anyone have any advise or recommendation for students over the summer holidays finding some sort of casual work during the holidays? my son is 16 going on 17 and gets quite long holidays from school and rather than him sitting doing nothing dramatic, he would rather be working earning some CHF during the holidays but it seems that as he's not 18 its not so simple
does anyone have any recommendations for summer work where he can work for half of July and all of August?
he speaks swiss german and english and is a swiss citizen...
My brother used to work in a factory. There might still be somre that have those offers.
I used to work at Mc Donalds. But I might have been 18 already. Not sure. But I worked there the whole year not just during holidays. But I could usually work more during those weeks.
Restaurants are really struggling to find staff. He needs to start knocking on doors now. Lots of ads currently in local press and local social media groups- Museums too.
My 16-year old daughter and I were having breakfast in a cafe/bakery shop last fall when I encouraged her to ask the owner if there might be an opportunity for her to work. The owner asked her to submit her cv and she has been working there on weekends and during the holidays since.
Many of our daughter's classmates in gymnasium have jobs. She has told me about classmates that work at a butcher's, a cheese shop, Landi, a cafe, a restaurant, as supervisor of the kids' play area in a shopping mall...
Many people truly respect a kid with initiative, and who is 'brave' enough to knock on the door and ask directly. Just in time for for this Summer- many kids leave it to the last minute.
If he could chose, what type of work would he prefer? The typical holiday job will include easy manual labor. He should, like, have an idea whether he prefers washing dishes or waiting tables when asking at a restaurant/hotel.
There should be lots of offers in touristy areas, July and August are the main times. Same for construction. If he started before the holidays, working half-days or on Saturday or whatever, he'd have an idea what to expect and if he can see himself do that the entire holidays, the potential employer likewise, that's highly recommended especially as it appears to be his first job.
Conforama and Hornbach will need helpers to fill the shelves while the regular employees are on holiday.
Does he like the waters? There's a chance the Türlersee SUP rental needs two more hands, or the camping
Etc, you get the idea.
Make sure his paid hours don't depend on the weather.
Just in case its of interest to anyone, I noticed that the Landi in Stafa is looking for a student for admin work. Written German was one of the requirements. There is a notice on the door if anyone wants to know more.
