Filling stocks and shares data in Swiss tax returns (IBKR Steuerauszug)

One big difference is in the current version, negative balances (debt) are not separated out. I will fix this. It is the main difference between the output and DL.

There are also FX rate differences. I will need to double check sources. I currently didn’t import daily rates into the database but will do that at some point.

I think the Datalevel version does only use the official tax database for dividends if the stock is contained there. I did write a mail in January with all the stocks that were not contained and the tax guys did add them the same day, very efficient.

In other words, the Datalevel output does not rely on the dividend data of the broker but on the one of the tax database. Forex there is used at the day rate of the date of the dividend, not sure if payout date or ex date.

That may be the explanation of the difference in the two reports. The broker still did not even deliver the official tax documents and mixes up dates quite a lot in other reports.

I’m using the official tax data too, but some are missing. If there are missing values, I plug in the value from the IBKR report. This could be one difference.

I think this is just presentation, since once in the tax system, the system should re-calculate based on most recent data.

I need to fix the allocation between DA-1 and non-DA1 and then it will be close.

Just fill in the totals of a portfolio on one entry row of the tax form and upload copies of tax & EOY statements. Been doing that for years.

Actually I took care of it before, reported all the missing stocks and they were added by the tax people. Datalevel says if a symbol is missing in the tax database they either use the IB data or data from EZB.

Did you get back the foreign withholding tax on dividends that way?

Yes!

Wow, that would probably have saved me hundreds of hours. Which Kanton is that? Did you have to separate your holdings into DA-1 and non DA-1? What about dividends in foreign currency, the taxman wants the CHF exchange rate of the day (ex-date I think).

Last year I was checked and had to deliver all trades in addition to the tax relevant data. I suppose they wanted to check if they could tax me as a professional trader, but I do fulfill all the requirements of “Kreisschreiben 36”, my stock market strategies are built with that in mind.

Addendum: just checked the automatically filled declaration with the Datalevel e-statement: there is only one line in both pages, DA1 and non DA1, referencing to the e-statement. Maybe I could just have printed out an IBKR report in CHF in the past. Anyhow, it is the past, I will continue to use the e-statement.

Only have a few stocks and funds in CH, so list those individually since the ZH tax SW magically updates the pertinent data (i.e. dividends) automatically. US holdings are 3 portfolios (1 bank and 2 brokers). So I have 3 entries on the DA-1. As for exchange rates, I simply use the EOY values. So in the tax program I enter the payout date of December 31st and the SW calculates the CHF value. I believe one can also use the middle of the year rates (i.e. June 30th). But I have never done that.
