I still have not received a final tax bill from cantonal/federal levels for 2020. Does anyone know how long on average one should wait for this? Although I can roughly calculate things, I am currently unemployed and ensuring I have an appropriate buffer set aside for taxes from 2 years ago, let alone last year, is slightly annoying. I am not taxed at source as I am married to a Swiss. Is there a period of time in which this has to be issued? The amount of tax I will need to pay will not be insignificant but it creates additional issues around lost opportunities and or ability to invest elsewhere if I do not know when I will receive this bill or indeed what it’s final amount will be.

No idea about Ticino but according to Ticino Tom it can take ages. I don ́t think there is a specific timeline.
If there is no mistake on your tax declaration you know exactly what the final ammount will be. Thus for canton and commun tax you can prepay the exact ammount, for federal tax you will have to set aside an approrpriate ammount.
Thanks both. Yes, I did think it might be canton specific in terms of timelines. Ticino typically prefers a slower pace, which is fine for most things but I’m happy to pay my taxes but I’d prefer to get it over and done with and waiting 2 years seems excessive.
As aSwissintheUS said, you can pay that in now. I always calculate what is due and pay that in. In Kanton Zurich you even get minimal interest for that.
At least that way I ́m done for that year.
I waited 3 years once (also Ticino). I think the maximum is 5 years.
