Hi, I'm a Swiss citizen that moved to the US around the age of 6-7 and am currently in my second year of undergraduate studies in the US.
I found out recently that I will definitely be in Switzerland this coming summer (2013). I am at the point in my studies where I need a solid internship for this summer, and so I have to find something in Switzerland.
Now the problem I'm having is I don't know much about financial firms in Switzerland and I'm having a tough time finding information out online. I know there is a lot of private banking (of which I know Julius Baer and Pictet) and wealth management. I'd be delighted to get something in either of these fields, but I need to know more companies to send my resume to...If anyone that has some experience in this as far as what companies are good/prestigious/etc, and could list them here it would be greatly appreciated. It doesn't have to be private banking and wealth management, I'm also looking at investment banking, [prop] trading, private equity, even hedge funds. I just want to get a good list of companies and send my info around and hope for something.
I've heard of the Pfaffikon region, but don't know much about the companies there.
Also, could anyone explain what sort of hours/pay I could expect, and what exactly the culture is for hiring interns (is it common, etc)?
Or Hessen as Deutschebank hires about 700 interns every summer!
In Europe BNP and DB are the two banks that have decent internships.
You dont want Switzerland. Thats my advice. They have really curbed down their trading, and risk taking. Its not a conducive place for learning. Most talent is trained in London (UBS Prop is 90% London based!) and thats where most of the real training is for young turks like yourself.
Well I'm not set 100% on banking/trading, I'm really just looking for something in finance as I can specialize more in my analyst stint the following summer. London I don't believe will be an option as I have to/will be in Switzerland. I would just stay and look for something in NY (or just the States in general) if I wasn't in this situation. There isn't anything that exists in Switzerland for what I'm looking for? What do business/finance/economics scholars my age do in CH?
Sorry for the triple post, but come to think of it, something in Germany might actually work as well, so if you could list out reputable places that would cater to my situation (in Switzerland and Germany, preferably near the Swiss border), I'd appreciate it. As I said I just don't really have great knowledge of the European financial scene as far as what firms are good goes.
Not at all, just thought I could get the undergrad portion of my life done with first. Surely if I say it is a school sponsored internship then they wouldn't do anything.
I mean I've spoken to the relevant people in the past regarding this, obviously they won't force me into anything since I am living abroad and I'm fairly certain I won't be forced into service until I am back in Switzerland more permanently as opposed to 3-4 months, which isn't even long enough to fully do the training.
My wifes ex-husband was a pussy who didnt like guns. He simply paid a tax of 3,000CHF per year that allowed him to not have to serve. So you have to pay I believe. But whats the matter with running 10km a day and shooting guns?
You could tell all your friends back in the US that youre a Swedish Navy SEAL.... They wont have a clue.
