Fine dining in and around Zurich

Am looking for a fine dining restaurant in and around Zurich to buy vouchers from for a colleague who is getting married.

He is a bit of a foodie and likes the finer (read expensive) things in life so we thought we would club together to buy a voucher for a meal.

He has eaten in alot of different venues (Dolder for example), so something slightly left of center where he may not of been would be good, perhaps out of the city and down the lake side perhaps, however it must have a fine dining ambiance and of course top fancy food!

Note, I am not looking for a 'nice place' for a meal, more something that is an occasion.

Any thoughts would be welcome!

Schloss Schauenstein is the only 3-michelin star rated restaurant in German speaking Switzerland, I believe. It's in Fürstenau, about 1.5 hours from Zürich. Pretty pricey though, and I haven't been myself so I can't personally attest to the quality of the place.

Try Apriori, their menu degustation. It was fantastic.

I have never eaten at Tao's but a lot people I know have, and so far only good reviews.

Now the Deco in there is not to my taste. But the Chef is the same Chef that has been there for years, and the food is good. The views are pleasant and you can get there by car, train, or boat.

I could offer my services for a small evening, of part classical, part molecular. And organize a unique setting. But you did ask for recommendations of actual places.

Tao's more for the ambience than the food but still a good call.

Restaurant Sein - very impressive high quality cuisine.

Is your friend a fan of Japanese food / Teppan Yaki?

Fujiya by Bahnhof Enge is an enjoyable experience. Your table gets its own chef who cooks in front of you.

The Wagyu beef he cooked me is still the best steak I've ever eaten.

First a fine for driving in Austria, now a fine for dining in Zurich? Whats next?

Thanks for the replies we went for Restaurant Rigi blick in the end, lets see if it is fine dining, or just expensive!

The best thai restaurant i been i ahua in helvetiaplatz and cucina is very nice nearby langstrasse

Also, if you and your friend don't mind a little travel, Lyon is not very far away and is home to Paul Bocuse's *** restaurant. That really would be a special treat and a meal they won't forget!
