there was the same topic a couple of months ago

what was the emergency?

It was raining and the umbrella wouldn't open.

I asked my driving instructor after I read the last thread on this topic. He told me that the licence would be taken away for about 3 months and a fine (which you apparently have already received) levied.

NO, NO, NO

new shoes

EF forum member, 'curious' posted a very similar topic towards the end of October.

Somone asked him/her to post the outcome but no news so far.

Incidentally, he/she is also based in Lausanne; you don't happen to be twins by any chance?

Driving alone on learners License

Really, why-oh-why do people actually think they can drive a car without a licence?

You know the rules and you know this is Switzerland, so what makes people think they can get into a car without having passed a test and drive?

Technicalities aside, i.e. that mechanically one is able to, what mechanisms in the brain short-circuit to make this happen? Would you let a Dr operate on you without official qualifications? A pilot fly you without passing his test?

The whole point of a test is to confirm that you can. Until you've actually passed the test, you cannot.

I'm not writing this in a "rant" mode, just genuinely and utterly flummoxed at the - sorry for this - utter and complete stupidity of such an action.

(Now you can tell us that the emergency was a life or death situation that involved saving the lives of 20 babies, just to make me feel bad )

Are you learner's permit guys leaving the blue "L" on the car when you take off solo? Just wondering because I've been stopped 3 times in 10 years and that was really late at night for routine breathalyzer testing (passed, yea!). Or are you in fact really still learning and drive in such a way as to draw attention? That is to say, posing a danger to those around you??

why do they have to fail someone who is driving from last 15 years....with zero accident / mistake record...

That makes as much sense as driving alone on a learner's permit...

Sorry, Aout07, I'm not really having a go at you, it is just that if you don't have a licence that is valid here in CH , then you simply don't have permission and can expect the Swiss to take a dim view of the situation. You should know by now that they like their rules, and most Swiss I have spoken to have never heard of the maxim: "rules are made to be broken".

It is Sod's law that you are going to be checked the one time you try it. Look at the other thread, the guy said s/he was travelling a distance of 2 km and they got caught.

The other thing, of course, is that cars are a very emotive topic, as they can cause a lot of damage, so again, the police will take a dim view of the situation.

Whatever the outcome, good luck!
