First Month Pay

Hi, in July I’ll start working in Switzerland. I previously worked in Sweden and was wondering what is the standard of the first month pay. Let me explain better. In Sweden, it is common to pay the 25th of the first month, e.g. if my contract starts in July my first wage is gonna be payed the 25th of July. How does it work in Switzerland?

That depends on your contract/company. I have had salary payouts on the 25th of the month but also later. Ask your employer?

That depends so indeed ask your employer. I think most employers try to wire a bit before the end of the month to account for inter-bank exchanges. Ordinary transfers between banks can take ~3 working days

Each employer can make it different, but in reality in every job I had here it was around 25th of the month. Some would do it on 24th, some on 26th etc.

25th is quite typical here and earlier in December.

Thé 25th is called pay day here and you quite often hear people mentioning it in the shops when they’re busy just after that date.

Same as Sweden.

It wouldn't be too surprising if you needed additional liquidity, so know that the employer is to help with a reasonable early payment. They may be hesitant with a very fresh employee but it won't hurt to ask.

It depends.

For full-time jobs or part-time with fixed hours, it's typical to pay on the 24th. This June the 24 was a Saturday, so payment on the 23th. "Same" job when I worked for a different legal entity, payday was also 24th but shifted to next Monday of 24 was on a weekend.

Of course this changes if you work part-time and variable hours. Sum of month hours are made until end of month, payday between days 3-5 of next month. Of course, depending if the 3-5 are on a weekend.

I've never had a transfer take more than overnight, except for international transfers.

I normally release the payrolls on the day before payment with a value date of the payment date and most are credited same day, some the next day.
