first pregnancy

Hi there, i found out a week ago that i'm pregnant, i already contact my gyne at home and he prescribed me some tests. You have any idea about where can i do blood tests and ultrasound, a place where english or italian are spoken and where i can do these things as a private(i don't have a permit, i came in Zurich some days a week to see my fiance)?please help, idon't have any idea!!!!

You could start off by visiting the walk-in clinic at Zurich Bahnhof. No appointment needed - you just walk in and wait your turn. The doctors speak English. Just walk down the Bahnhofstrasse and cross over the tram lines towards the train station. The clinic is facing you on the left hand side of the main station building. If you need referring to a gyne they will take care of that.

First off, congratulations !

I looked at the permanence website and I dunno why I dont see this info in english, but in german it says:

Was wir nicht anbieten:

- Hausbesuche

- fachärztliche Spezialuntersuchungen

- gynäkologische Vorsorgeuntersuchungen

- Schwangerschaftsbetreuung

which I think means they dont do any pregnancy checkups at all. (among other things)

What do you mean with: "do these things as a private" ?

Do you have health insurance? Where do you usually live and when will you see you regular doctor again?

Do you know how far along you are? There really isnt that much of a rush, most doctors wont do an ultrasound until 6 weeks after your last period, or later.

If you're not already taking vitamins including folic acid (a common vitamin supplement for pregant women here is called Elevit), you should consider starting to take some.

All the best!

First of all thanks!!!I'm Italian, and my doctor too, but i'm spending until April a period as a visitor student in Germany, not too far from here...i don't have any insurance, cause in Italy the health service is public ...i'm 5 weeks today, so I have to choose if came back to Italy earlier for the ultrasound or do it here!!!I'm taking the folic acid from the last month, don't worry!!!I hate that they don't make pregnancy check -up!!!!But thanks for understanding!

Congratulations! I don't have any contacts in Zurich, but having recently gone through the whole experience here in Suisse Romande I can assure you that you are in good hands.

The Swiss doctors are very through and give you tests and scans every month and all the doctors I've come in contact with have been fantastic and all want you (and your partner and baby) to have a great experience.

In terms of contacts, here the local maternity hospital had a list of doctors in the area and could inform me which ones speak what languages. We also have a mid-wife centre which is a great source of information and support. So you could try your local maternity ward or mid-wife association.

Good luck, you're entering a very special time - so enjoy!

thanks!!!I will try!!

But you will need private health insurance to see a gyneacologist here unfortunately. It would be really expensive to get scans and things done here without it. My doc was an Italian Swiss who spoke English but I had really good insurance. It may be cheaper to travel home or to Gemany to get tests done, it's early yet in any case.
