Fitting out a chalet

We are shortly about to complete our purchase of a chalet in La Tzoumaz and need to fit it out.

We need to buy some furntiture, mainly beds, but also lamps, rugs and general household items (duvets, pillows, towels etc), as well as items for the kitchen (cutlery, plates, pans, fondu set, nexpresso coffee maker etc).

Has any one got any good recommendations as to a) furniture shops (we dont want modern, but chalet style) and b) places for the household items?

Any suggestions for TVs, audio and children's toys would also be good.

We think practically we will need to buy everything in Switzerland, but any suggestions re buying and sending things or having them delieverd from the UK also welcome.

Many thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

I can help you with Rustic beds and tables, I am an Australian carpenter based in Meilen 8706 ZH. Some examples can be seen here www.noonwoodwork.com please send an enquiry from the website with contact details for more information.

In regard to your other items required a bit depends if it is for personal use or commercial, matress' are expensive here so your best options are Ikea box spring with matress topper , www.kingkoil.de or ship them from UK (which is a not complicated depending on your UK supplier). Eletronics here are reasonably priced, select your item and use www.toppreisse.ch to get the best deal. Plates, crockery ect is probably best from Ikea and you can replace single items which get broken as you need to. www.ricardo.ch is more commonly used here than ebay and worth looking at as well. Most villages have a kid's market a couple of times a year where the local kids sell their old toys, good for everyone concerned and a good source of reasonable priced toys.

Budget? Keep in mind that chalet style furniture is mostly custom made in CH thus can be very expensive. Having recently done this, I would give your budget first before going down this route. Not familar with carpenters in that part of the Valais, but there should be some around there. Here is a yellow page listing for Martigny, should be a start.

Household items like bedding etc.. can be found in Manor, large Coops, etc..

I would suggest visiting a nearby second hand shop or charity shop that sells furniture.

So many go down the contemporary route but if you want some really authentic wood furniture try and have a look there.

I have seen some magnificent furniture that people have chucked out.
