I have been thinking to travel from Zurich to Norway. Price is the constraint. So thinking about low cost airlines.
I could find norweigen airlines flying only from Geneva.
Are there any more low cost flights flying from Zurich( or Basel ) to anywhere in Norway ( Oslo, Bergen, Tromso, .... )
Try from Basel, KLM or Air France
http://www.fluege.de/flight/encodes/sFlightInput/5b21da75cd9322655db522ca8cbf4c0c/ Cheaply, Easyjet Geneva to Stanstead then RyanAir to Oslo
www.mcflight.de flight from zurich to oslo (dep.08.Jul, return Jul 24th) direct flight )no stops,
return starts from 207 Euros
Just as a note, from Oslo Airport to the City center there is a very good train connection. Fast and much much cheaper than Taxi. In fact, if you are on a budget, then avoid Taxi's completely.
Be careful with your budget as Norway can be more expensive than Switzerland.
Enjoy your trip.
Or Easyjet Zurich-Gatwick then Norwegian from Gatwick to various locations in Norway. I want to go to Svalbard now!
For anyone 26yrs and under (bankers included ) SAS has Youth fares. Go to the regular "plan and book" page then you will see "book a youth fare in Europe". If you book in advance there is generally a fairly good choice of flights, and you can book one-way without paying a premium.
I realize the post is a few weeks old, but being from Norway and soon about to hop on a plane the other way (Oslo to Zürich) I thought I'd mention Air Berlin which we're going to be flying with. I have no experiences with them but their prices are good. We'll be changing planes in Berlin but only with a 45 minute wait.
And yes -Norway is expensive!
The airport express train ( http://www.flytoget.no/eng/ ) costing NOK 170 has already been mentioned to get from the airport to the centre of Oslo city, but there's also the airport bus ( http://flybussen.no/en ) slightly cheaper at NOK 150.
Hope you enjoy your stay here!
We flew air berlin this winter to goteborg, via berlin. You might need all of that 45 minute wait to hike from one terminal to the next. The airport looks like an old bus station and is spread out. I thought air berlin was fine, but i really disliked Tegel.
If you use this option be aware that Ryanair (as usual) don't fly to the main Oslo airport. Either Torp (120 Km away) or Rygge (60 Km away); both of which Ryanair describe as "Oslo". About as accurate as describing Basel as Zürich or Memmingen as München (hold on....)
No idea what transport is like from those two.
The normal Oslo airport (Gardermoen) isn't much closer, but the old one (Fornebu) was.
Tom
You can get from either Torp or Rygge to central Oslo by train, but typically Ryanair one first needs to take the free bus that coordinates with flight to reach the station. From Rygge the train journey is about one hour 15 min, and from Torp closer to 2 hours. By the time one factors in the train fare, and if traveling with children, it can work out less to fly to Gardermoen and take the flytog (children up to 16 travel free with an adult, or halfprice if alone). There is also a regular NSB train between Central Oslo station and Gardermoen that costs less than flytog and takes closer to 40 min.
Unfortunately June (summer in general) is peak period for flights to Norway, particularly near the weekends. Norwegian fly Oslo-Geneva, often quite reasonably.
The old Fornebu is now used by Norwegian as their staff/crew training base, and has been developed into pricy real estate, both residential and commercial.
If you want to go very high north, I once had a great time flying into Kiruna, Sweden, seeing the beautiful abisko area and quickly crossing over into Norway.
I just booked tickets last night r/t Oslo-Zürich in August. Swiss had the best fares, for once 179sfr.
Stockholm-Zürich £95 o/w on SAS, but you'll need to stop in Oslo and catch the same flight that costs £259 if you start your journey in Oslo
Thanks everyone for the reply. Gives good insight to available options.
