Flights to Exeter.

Family emergency- Which airline flies direct to Exeter at this time of year? Please.

And hiring a car when over 75- which company? Thanks.

None direct as far as I know. My son was at Uni there. There used to be more flights available when BMI was still operational.

Best for you is an EJ flight to Bristol from GVA and then hire car 1.5h to Exeter

I just saw some EJ flights on Skyscanner from GVA to BRS in December starting from Fr 35 pp

Europcar rents to over 75 I believe

Good luck!

Thanks- yes this is what we have found this afternoon.

Were hoping someone flew direct to Exeter.

What about car hire for over 75s. Any idea.

Try Europcar

Bristol is really your only option to get to Exeter from here.

Avis also hires cars to over 75s I believe.

Looking on booking.com there are some flights to Exeter, but they involve changing at places like Edinburgh or Dublin and can have a long lay over.

Yes, most flights with two changes. Only looking at direct flights. Looks like Bristol + car hire is the only way. Thanks.

At Bristol they have moved the rental car centre to the other side of the runway. Plan a 15 shuttle ride and the same waiting time. +/-30m

That was because there were regularly horrendous traffic jams caused by vehicles coming into the airport and those leaving the parkings, drop offs and the hire cars pickups due to the crazy road configuration around the airport. When leaving you had to circle round and you ended up joining the jam of cars coming into the airport.

Once we picked up a car and then spent 45 mins just to get onto the motorway.

Yah, now it’s the shuttle bus that gets stuck in traffic. They haven’t solved the problem as rental cars are only a small part of the problem. They just wanted to move them to free up land for their expensive multistory car park and short term parking. (£5 for 30 minutes; £55 for 24 hrs). Drop off fee is now £5 for 10 minutes. .

skyscanner.ch is your friend when trying to research flight possibilities.

It pretty much covers all airlines and all routes. May not be accurate as to whether or not the flight is actually available (as in, has seat left) but it does show you all the potential options. Including ones which are separate flights (not bookable as a through journey).

Sadly, Exeter is a bitch to get to anyway and since the 2nd demise of FlyBe doesn't have the services it once had. I was going to suggest Swiss ZRH to MAN then the flight to Exeter - but there aren't any MAN - EXT flights any more.

Kind regards

Ian

I use Expedia or booking.com to see which airlines operate - then book direct with the airline.

Fly to Heathrow then train to Exeter? Fastest trains are about 2'45".

Thanks all for your suggestions, very grateful. As wil have to go to Torquay and Dartmouth, a car hire will be essential.

I would also suggest Heathrow, many more flights (and probably cheaper) and it's only 3 hours drive. Or National Express have direct coaches that take 3:40. The other airport option is Bourenmouth or Southampton, but not sure if there any direct flights from CH

Thanks all, very kind.

Immediate emergency over, and sil getting good support locally. But its good to be prepared. Thanks again.

Possibly Gatwick and overnight at daughter's in Surrey- or Bristol.
