I have been thinking about changing the flooring in the bedrooms and wanted to hear if anyone has experience with Vinyl flooring.
Not sure why should I go with parquet and pay something that I know I will not use for next 30 years so I was thinking about Vinyl as alternative.
Vinyl flooring is even being exported from Switzerland to EU and accoridng to the data, it is not “toxic” anymore. somewhere I have read even some stuff about “bio” version (however that could be connected to platic material).
I went with vinyl plank just to be more “kid’s proof”. It’s cheap, easy to install, water-proof, dimensionally stable, looks good.
EDIT: Now I think about it, I’m not sure if you meant LVP/vinyl plank or the large sheets of linoleum.
I moved to rented apartment with newly laid vinyl in the kitchen. It was smelly a bit for about half a year, but otherwise all is fine and you can choose whatever pattern you’re dreaming of.
Is it easier to keep it clean i.e. does it retain (traces of) stains? In the kitchen area especially is important. And one more think I can think of is if it gets scratched easily.
Obviously it’s less durable than ceramic tiles. However it depends, you can easily crack a tile by dropping something heavy, but you’ll only make a little dent in vinyl.
I meant vinyl plank. Thanks for feedback.
I have similar thought, but more because of the future dog in home
I don’t like to option of tiles in the bedroom. they are just too cold for me for bedroom. rest of the appartment is IMHO with the floor heating that the best option.
Then it probably makes sense to have this vinyl plank. It seems very practical.
Vinyl is noisy to walk over compared to wood (parquet). If you are used to wood floors you will realise you are on vinyl the moment you step on it…
what do you mean noisy? like, you here the steps?`or only if you are in shoes?
Yes, especially with shoes. But even without the feel of a vinyl floor is very different to wood. Plastic v wood…
OP, I would also favour wood any time, dogs or no dogs in the house.
Wood absorbs noise better than the laminate flooring does and also feels warmer underfoot. It does damage more easily though and is much more expensive and does take some work to maintain.
The laminate flooring (aka vinyl planks) is hard wearing and would be fine for the bedrooms especially if you plan to have dogs.
They are two different things. Laminate with an mdf substract has a horrible sound when you walk on it.
I saw some Vinyl, wood effect planks in an upmarket kitchen place and they were nice to walk on and looked great.
There are a multitude of different types of floorting, but laminate normally refers to laminate planks with wooden top surface. Vinyl plank normally refers to plank where the top surface is made of vinyl.
I think it must be a regional thing because here in the french part laminate is the one with the plastified layer on the top of the wooden plank and parquet is the one with the wooden layer on top. Then you have hardwood flooring which is a different thing entirely.
Yes, I think it is a regional and maybe language thing. In English, I always understood parquette to be floor made of solid small pieces of interlocking wood typically nailed down. But I know in France they use Parquet for wood-based laminate.
Our floors are 2-layer oak parquet. Each piece is 500/5,5 cms. In three rooms they are fitted lengthwise. In two, herringbone pattern.
The most resilient type of wood flooring and “reasonably” priced compared to other types of hardwood.
Another point on flooring typers: natural wood floors do fade over time - or darken if they are a light colour.
Moving furniture or mats after a few years will be a surprise. Sunlight speeds up this process…
