Fly Swatters

Best places to get some new ones. Just good old fashioned plastic ones, not looking for fancy ones. Had a look in Otto’s a couple of times when we’ve been in there for other things, but they don’t seem to stock them. Migros? Coop? Jumbo? Bauhaus? Just busted one of mine so I only have one left so need to restock.

All of those places have them. As do places like GIFI and Maxi Bazaar..

We have about six of them at various points dotted around the house.

Interdiscount! Their tennis-racket shaped swatter uses small batteries to generate shocks that effectively kill the bugs, of any size.

It’s ugly but it works!

So in addition to the above, also

We finally broke down and got one of those blue light zappers. Living next to a farm, with doors often open for the mutts, we just couldn't keep up. Still need the olf fashioned fly swatters in other rooms, but at least we are now holding our own against the invasion.

I'll never buy those flimsy too-stiff plastic swatters again. Over the years I replaced them with leather swatters--their flexibility and neutral colour get the bugs, even fast-moving yellow jackets, every time. (Bugs can see those bright-coloured ones from a mile away, and plastic is usually too stiff to swat quickly.) I've had one for 20 years; still in service. That amortizes to about 50 raeppli per year, so cheaper than plastic.

We also live near a farm with cows. These past 2 weeks have been terrible. What we find helpful are those clear sticky strips (Coop, Migros) that you put on the inside of the windows to catch the flies. They work wonders.

I as well have a 20-year-old leather fly swatter (Roots Canada) that is perfect.

Never seen leather ones, didn’t know they existed. Had my plastic ones for around 20 years so not surprising they’re finally reaching break point - literally.

Thanks for the replies; will have to visit some over the weekend to stock up. I only have 3, but one’s completely broken now and another has part of the handle broken off though it’s still useable. Need one or two for upstairs as well.

We’re opposite a farm so do get a fair amount of flies when the windows are open.

Sticky things for the windows (inside) that attract and kill the flies (they stick to the film).

These sticky films also come in designs like butterflies.

Leather fly swatters.

OMG Verbier. That Swiss one is twice what they cost here, even in the fancy gift shops at tourist locations. I got my first one at the Titisee (Black Forest) 22 years ago. On the wooden handle it says, Bei mir hast du keine chance!

What is a "Fliegenklatsche ass Display"?

Meloncollie, have you looked into these door screens with magnetic closure? Dogs (read, bargey mutts) easily could be trained to go though them, and they close automatically behind them.

We have a good ol' US style screen door, put in for just this issue.

Worked well with the shelties, as they are brilliant puzzle solvers. They quickly figured out how to open the door with just the right amount of paw pressure and out they went. The door would swing back and shut with a magnetic closure.

The collies, however, are... not brilliant. Puzzles are way beyond their few working brain cells, their go-to move is 'full speed ahead and damn the torpedoes'. They barge through with so much force that the door doesn't swing back. Many repairs to the ripped screening later...

In our house a multi-pronged approach works best: Screens, zapper, and finally flyswatters.

Did I mention I hate flies?

I assume one of Galaxus' usual odd product descriptions?

Great store for selection and bargains, not so great for product description and details.

But a flyswatter is a flyswatter, so...

Landi, for the plastic kind of fly swatter, and assorted more high-tech things

I recommend Humptulip's seminal work " Howe To Kille Insects ". An invaluable tool, especially as it has 2000 pages.
