Food trucks in Zurich

Is the trend starting in Switzerland? Are there any food trucks with good quality food in Zurich city around lunch time?

I know there's the grilled chicken truck, of course. But other different types of food, like in the US ?

Thanks

I looked into this also.

I dont believe it will happen soon here in CH. to many laws etc etc. when I inquired about it they said they didnt want their city to llok like gypsies invaded it

I'm working near the binz area and there is one truck there "hin and out" i think is called.

I have never tried but there is always people eating around.

It's just in front of the Swisscom building.

schnaegg had a few lunch trucks out a while ago, every day somewhere else. in duebendorf on fridays there is also the Roesti truck, and i ve seen some other local sandwich/salad trucks around too.

but it s not very common, normally one eats in the cantine or a restaurant near by (or takes lunch with you)

These are normally done at street fairs. See the Basel Fall Fair for example. Hundreds of stalls.

I have seen a number of mobile Rotiseerie Chicken wagons, mobile kebab stands, and a mobile Thai stand.

I'm looking forward to seeing young, professional gastronomy artists use this as a venue to showcase their talents. I'm from L.A., where this kind of started, and it does work. But as with many things, Switzerland is typically 10-15 years behind.

I'm sure this would draw the ire of restaurant mafias.

What sucks is there is no space or permanent market where this could happen. Also the Swiss really don't do entrepreneurial either, if you aren't qualified to do something then don't do it is the attitude here, which really stifles creativity, hence people looking for something different to do are less likely to try and set up a food stall for example. Which is a shame for everybody.

I just watched 'Chef' last night, not the best or worst film, but a great topic. I would love to see food trucks in Switzerland, street food is all the rage, the more the better.

When I was a kid, "Migroswagen" used to trawl the roads of towns and villages once a week to let people who couldn't get to the main stores buy their groceries. The truck pulled up, a small set of wooden steps gave entry and you filed in the narrow corridor between the shelves and paid the driver as you exited at the front.

Yes, you are right. And therefore this "new" idea about food from tracks looks extremely old-fashioned (in a negative sense) to me/us. Not to mention the rather primitive equipment they can have on such a track. And don't even mention any hygiene issues.

... changed to make more sense

But well, since at least a decade anything looking the slightest like "vintage" makes any US-american wet. No wonder. They also tend to overstipulate the so-called "Old World" appearance. Well, there isn't one. But artifacts from different historical periods. And to us, it makes a huge difference, whether it is in fact historical or just looks like that.

And since they cannot differ between fake and real they adopt anything that looks like it (but isn't), but well, we are used to this superficial fuss, excessively as a matter of fact. Fine for them, but it is definitely not okay to force it on us.

Anyhow, "vintage" is such a US-driven invented word. And what a euphemism in fact: its connotation with high-quality. It is just stupid and naive to think that anything old equalizes with high-quality, what a nonsense! But well, probably back at home, their's, it is true that anything new lacks of quality, indeed regarding food (e.g. GMF).

So who are the old fashioned here? – And hey, my prefered US-american friends, would you finally make up your mind, do you prefer anything old ("vintage" ), or do you turn it down all the time!? – Almost a borderliner attitude, I must say.

The f*** is your problem?! Really, your post is uninformed and moronic.

I am also still trying to figure out why I was quoted in that post
