I have moved back to London for the last six months and the only thing that I miss from Swizterland is .... "Salatkronung" - The stuff you buy in sachets and put on salads which was very helpful for my healthy eating
Does anyone know what the closest alternative is in the UK - It seems to be a german thing only and I miss it very much ! !
What I was also going to say, but didn't want to get involved in a "why can't you cook basic stuff" discussion. Unfortunately, with these products, it's quite difficult for a normal home cook to come up with the same flavour with these ingredients, although with fresh herbs I'm sure most people could improve on it no end! (sugar is by far the largest ingredient, probably well over 70% then a whopping 12% or more of salt!)
To be fair though, fresh herbs contain some 85% water. If you replaced the dried with fresh ones (a version of that is bound to happen when the dried ones soak up water from the sauce and wet salad) you'd get something like half sugar+salt and half herbs.
Undoubtedly that's still a lot of sugar, nonetheless the result is quite a bit less lopsided than the label alone makes it appear to be.
There's a lot of sugar - relative to the other ingredients but considering how much of the mix one would use on the salad, the absolute amount of sugar per serving isn't very much.
Indeed, it looks like one sachet (2-4 portions) contains just 10g of the condiment. The cheap aceto balsamico we get from Lidl contains 53g carbohydrates per 100ml, even when just used to garnish it may add more sugar.
That said, I agree with grumpy, fresh herbs mixed ad-hoc are still preferable.
