Football hooligans, now it was Aarau's turn

We were having apéro in the balcony last night. Suddenly, loud noises. No, it was not a modded car that burns fuel in the exhaust system. It was the Aarau FC-Bern YBs football match.

Bern lost, they honored the Young Boys’ name by throwing a tantrum. 6 YB fans ended up in the hospital caused by fire from their fellow fans. Luckily, only people burned, no crowd crush.

There was also a parade of property damage between Brügglifeld (the football field) and the train station. Since there’s plenty of construction work along the way, hooligans picked up stones, metal barriers, whatever worked as weapon. 1 police officer hurt, 2 police cars damaged.

The Aarau train station:

Futher details (open article):

The CEO of the Swiss Football League told last year that IDying hooligans is too expensive and has lobbied hard against new regulations. Looking forward to the following declarations of this guy:

There was a vote on the Nationalrat about tools to keep hooligans in check only a couple weeks ago. Train tickets are named/personalized. Football tickets, never…the identity of hooligans is sacred. The Swiss Football League won.

worried about their financial health?

Easy, they must pay for all damage caused by hooligans - no matter who they were, who’s fans they were - and they will quickly find out what keeps up their financial healt.

What’s that limp plastic band supposed to achieve at the trainstation? Proof that the police noticed the obvious damage too? LOL.

I’d suggest telling the clubs they would have to insure against all damage caused by hooligans - no matter who they were, who’s fans they were. No insurance, no match.

Being made to pay up front, just might get their attention.

When I came to Switzerland (80s) soccer hooliganism was not a major issue as it was in the UK. Now the situation has reversed. What is bizarre is that the UK has no general requirement to identify oneself, whereas in Switzerland there sort of is. Polizeikontrolle Schweiz: Rechte und Pflichten – mit Checkliste | Beobachter .
And yet the police/society are unable /unwilling to take measures here to come to grips with the issue. Why?
