I finished the August 1st celebrations in style by falling a couple of metres in the pitch dark and have broken my right heel. I go for a CT scan tomorrow and am hoping that it is a simple fracture not involving any articular surface.
Anyone else been through this? The specialist is talking of up to 3 months non-weightbearing and I know that surgery on the calcaneus is to be avoided.
Am feeling very down about it all - though thankful that I didn't land on my head!!
thats sad to hear.Hope you recover soon and solid. I myself had several injuries thoughout the last year and it puts you off for months. Hope you find suitable options to keep busy and active.
Get well soon Grantley. Remember every cloud has a silver lining and all that, in your case it means you can spend more time on this forum while you rest your heel!! Yipeee
So I'm a prisoner in my house (right foot damaged so automatic car not even an option), can't carry anything that won't go into a bag round my neck, spend a lot of time scooting around on my bum looking very undignified cos my bruised ribs make crutches hard work......but yes....I can sit in font of my lap top till I grow cross-eyed......
sorry folks...you could be in for some silly posting over the next x weeks
Not a fracture but I've been member of the "plastic bag in the bathtub" club too, for some weeks! There's not much that I can tell you about CT scans, you shouldn't budge during the process but that won't be too difficult, I don't think that they scan you from tip to toe! Good luck!
We have a friend who did the same thing. Calcaneus is notorious for taking a long time to heal. He became an expert in big cook little cook and other BBC programmes that were shown during the day.Good luck with the CT, they are rather claustraphobic if you are having your head done but fine for lower extremities. I'm having my knee done this morning.
