Can anyone suggest where I could do a once a week, evening French lesson (beginner) with the language of instruction being English ( as oppossed to German) - either in Basel, or nearby. I am happy to be going to St Louis, Huningue or somewhere else close by that is easily accessable by public transport of a maz 30 minute bicylcle ride from the SBB region. Many thanks
Try www.centrepoint.ch they have French conversation classes for beginners & advanced beginners on Tuesday evenings.
Thanks. My beginner French is below any conversation level, but I will follow up on Centrepoint. ANyone with any other suggestions ( I am aiming at minimalising having to give up any of my other evening intersts to go to classes.)
Have you checked out Migros clubskule? They used to only do German to French (or any other language), but in recent times have included English-based language lessons.
You might want to check out Academia. http://www.academia-basel.ch/en/web/index.php I'm taking German there but they do teach French and so far everyone I've spoken to that works there speaks English.
When I did German at Inlingua there was a French class starting at lunchtime and the teacher spoke English. The method there is to teach in the language being taught.
Bon chance
Uuummm, and I need them to be cheaper than Acadamia - I don't ern enough to be able to pay 1800CHF for a beginners course. Fabrizio, I will check with Inlingua again to see if they offer something suitable now. It has to be evening - I only get a 30 minute lunch break, so lunchtime classes are out. 1630hrs would be the absolute earliest for me. I am hoping for a class that is taught in English, rather than a total immersion class becuase I know that suits my learning style ( abilty?) better. Merci :-)
Oops! Before someone tells me I should stick to English classes, I did mean "earn". I blame the keyboard.
Hello,
I also wanted to try the French conversation at Centrepoint, but it is not for absolutely beginners. However, I have seen an advertisement there, check this website:
This is French for English speakers
Biff, if you are looking for something cheaper than the standard language schools the UniversiteĢ Populaire may also be worth checking out: http://www.saint-louis.fr/sl/fr/rubrique/culture/UP/
I don't have any first hand experience but I understand it is a national scheme aimed at adult education (probably a bit like going to a community college night class in the UK) I think they run French classes in St Louis & also Hegenheim. Good Luck!
Thank you. I will check this out as an option. They appear to have had a course begin last week. The price seems unbelievable cheap in comparison to any prices I have ssen on the Swiss side of the border. Do you happen to know wether one has to be resident in France to get into these classes, or if there is a different price for those who reside outside France.
Tempting, tempting. If it is as student friendly as it sounds, this could be a good choice. However, the prices are a bit high. Maybe.....
yes, it is normal language courses. I go to the one in Hegeneheim. it is great and cheap ;o)))))
