Why oh why did you post that pic, Mud? Now I've got some serious homesick blues. And I'm not even from Cincinnati.
(I spent a lot of time round those parts, though.)
Welcome to Switzerland, Trav and Gail!

Yes, Swiss laws suck on Pipes and lids. At biker parties they rev up their ooh so quiet bikes and cheer! If you ever ride without a helmet, the ticket is several hundred francs, and if you hurt yourself or your scoot in any way the insurance(s) will not pay.
Yes, bring your bike, just get ready for a very perfectionist inspection. You make an appointment, they "proof" your bike and you have 1 year to complete the modifications.
I would recommend buying some stock pipes from dealer take offs, or on Ebay. You also need to install a KM speedo, not sure how that will turn out, just starting in the process, but I'm still glad we brought it!
I have heard some nice sounding bikes rolling down the road, so somehow the stock pipes fall off between inspections.
Old timers, 25yrs+ are exempt. (I'm thinking of importing my shovel next!)
Don't bother calling local dealers, they want 5-6k, or to sell you a new bike.
Insurance varies greatly, so get several quotes. Reply if you need some contacts.
Good luck!
Mud, Cincinnati had so many cheap beer breweries because it was settled by a lot of German immigrants. Should you get back this way, you'll find that Little Kings have returned.
Make sure you declare the motorcycle as moved household goods, no tax and no problems at the Swiss DMV. Are those the original pipes on the bike, if not you may have to put the stock ones back on.
