From Cincinnati to Altendorf

Moving to Switzerland from Cincinnati Ohio next month. New office located in Altendorf.

Will be looking for help with housing, autos and life in Switzetland.

Any Harley Riders or Tai Chi practitioners out there?

Welcome Trav, hope you enjoy it here ! From the flatland to the mountains, it's going to be an amazing experience.

Settle back and enjoy.

Try an open welcoming approach and it will be fun

Welcome to the Forum. I'm a part-time Michigander, sort of neighbor so to say, actually Swiss and living in Switzerland most of the time, but there's a Michigoose who desperately hopes I'll propose to her some day.

Really ? what happens if she says no ? maybe she's not desperate. Never underestimate ladies, captain dear, you could be surprised.

Sorry Trav for the digression, I can't resist teasing a man who's sure lady just can't live without him

No worry Sky, we have been together for more than ten years, albeit only part-time, i.e. living together either in Michigan or Switzerland about five months a year and being separated but closely connected thanks to modern telecommunication for the rest of the year. I guess we know each other well enough to know the outcome of that proposal thing.

As for your last sentence -- she has panic attacks whenever she thinks of flying, because, in her opinion, most planes tend to drop from the sky every now and then (most of them only once, though). However, she's flying in again on Thursday, bravely overcoming her fear for a few hours just to get us together once more. Does that say enough?

Ok, back to Trav before we get reprimanded by a Mod .

Maybe if she didn't let you know.... you'd be doing all the flying !

Trav, back to the good ol' US of A. Bring us some of that good humor oh and a thanksgiving turkey too !

I've got a Dyna '03 getting dusty waiting for our paperwork...

We're on the other side of Zurich from your office, but close enough for getting together for a ride. Did your bike travel with you or are you waiting for your container?

Hubby & I are originally from Chicago. Welcome to another Midwesterner!

Jenni

Trav,

Although that Florida thing is pretty embarassing, I want to

welcome you to Switzerland from a fellow American. If you

have questions about the language, land, or anything, let

me know.

Grant

Welcome from another former Ohioan (the other end of the state, though, on the lake )

Can't help the Florida thing. I'm a Gator, My son is a gator and My daughter-in-law is a gator

But Trav, here nobody really knows what that means.

Care to explain ?

*ignorant*

sport. College sport in particular, I'd say

Florida Gators are a university team, and they are definitely

the bad guys!!

For more info on the Gators you can go to

Trav's wife here. What great welcomes we've both gotten! Thanks to all.

I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on how best to ship items to Switzerland? No furniture, a couple of framed pieces that won't fit in off the shelf boxes, pots and pans and clothes that won't fit in the suitcases.

We will also be shipping a motorcycle in the spring. Any Swiss laws on pipes?

Many thanks for any information,

Gail

Gail - you might find UPS or similar services are useful for your household items.

For the bike - I'd find a shipping agent there or consider selling it and buying new here. The laws will be different for non-original accessories, emissions, noise and so-on. Unless it's a collectors item, consider not bringing it.

The Swiss have strict laws on pipe and slippers

For a motorcycle, try "Shipping International" http://www.shippinginternational.com/ . Contact Medi Belorchi or

Marlyn Navarta. They have shipped several things for me including

a 20' container to move here as well as a leather couch and chair.

Drat you Cincinnati people! I've got a craving for a proper 5 way from Skyline Chili now. And a pint of Graeter's ice cream.

Ooooooh American ice cream !!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome Gail !!

Just ship if from the States normal mail, it will get here ok. It will probably take a few weeks and will be checked by customs, but if it's your personal belongings and the contents are clearly indicated there shouldn't be a problem.

For the motorcycle, no idea.

Ship over a few boxes of your favorites food goodies because you might miss some of your basics.

Welcome to EF
