I currently use Migros M-Budget prepaid card as my cell phone provider. I had bad experiences with subscription plans in the US, so I didn't want to get a plan here. For the most part, I am very happy with M-Budget because I don't make many phone calls, don't pay if someone calls me, and only pay 10 rappen per SMS. I've been using a very cheap dualband phone that doesn't work in the US, but that was fine most of the time since I'm rarely in the US anyway. Plus, I like my cell phone number.
However, I plan to travel a lot this year. At first, planned on buying a netbook but realized that I can get what I want from a phone that I can easily put into my purse. I would like to get a new phone (minimum triband ) where I can easily access GPS. But I've heard that only most phones misinterpret your current position by up to 500 meters so I'm interested in the ones that do it right. Otherwise, except for the SBB schedule, I don't plan to use the Internet very much, except, perhaps, when traveling.
I checked comparis.ch but got confused. Can anyone recommend a provider/phone that offers relatively cheap deals for infrequent data/GPS and phone call usage but high sms usage both within and outside of Switzerland?
can't you just get a phone with a GPS function and keep your existing provider. the gps should work without using data - although best to use a little data for a-gps to get a fast lock on.
i have the e71 phone and this has gps accuracy to a few meters. i wonder if the 500m thing you've quoted refers to gsm triangulation, which is much less exact and depends on the density of the local cellular network.
I didnt want to start a new thread on this but I have a somewhat similar problem. I wanted to switch from Mbudget to a company that charges much less when you talk to people on their network. I think Swisscom, Orange, Lebara do this. M-Budget doesnt and charges you the same rate whatever the number is that you call.
Anyone know what company has the most amount of subscribers. Can you tell what network someone is on by looking at their number??
I have the Nokia 6220 with browser function (works fine, I use it for map.search.ch, sbb.ch, zvv.ch and mailing) and Navigation software (built in, also works abroad)
I got it with a 12 month contract for 100.- or so a year ago, and I am quite happy with the GPS function. It works with about 5-10 Meter accuracy, often even better.
If you want to use the built-in voice navigation etc you'll have to pay for that after 3 months or so. I use a Sunrise Zero 25 subscription with 7.-/M Internet usage of 700mb. Don't underestimate the data transfer when using GPS for map details, so only get a subscription where you have enough bandwith, otherwise it gets very costly...
