What a gorgeous moggy! What breed is s/he?
Hunter is a Birman aka sacré du Birmanie … He has two “sisters”, of the same breed, just over 4 years.
Tomorrow through Sunday, you can see the Frost Moon, also known as the Cold Moon or the Beaver Moon (for their activity in building their dams is helped by the bright light). It’s the last of the 4 super moons this season. If you are lucky, you can spot the Pleiades nearby. At 4 this morning, I looked out on the moody sky with veiled almost-full moon, and the snow coming down lightly. This morning we awoke to a winter wonderland, with snow dusting the mountainside conifer forests!
It’s a little cold to stay outside looking for the Geminid meteor shower, but from inside the moon appears full, although it will technically be almost fully (a bit less than 98%) illuminated tomorrow. The Cold Moon was not last month–it’s this one; I misspoke there. It will be very bright tonight, so you are unlikely to see many constellations, but Jupiter will be very bright.
It’s not a full moon this time, but a rare black one (the second new moon in a month). Here’s a comprehensive article about what constellations and stars will be visible in the sky this weekend, as the sun and moon reach conjunction.

Wow, I’m a little late to post this…I was reminded when I saw the full moon over the mountains in a clear star-lit sky. The Wolf moon is full now, with Mars in attendance. It’s beautiful.
I’ve been out looking at the night sky for the past few clear nights because it’s been showing a number of planets together and has been spectacular. With the naked eye you can see Mars, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn.
It was stunning both yesterday evening and early this morning.
The clear skies made it very easy to see both the moon and mars.
We have had a week of sunshine and clear night sky. We are promised another 9 at least (!)
I’d rather have more snow!
from zurich one sees nothing.
The Snow Moon rises tomorrow. As we have snow expected on Thursday, it’s an appropriate name. However, we may be unable to see it until Friday, as tomorrow promises heavy cloud cover.
I like the way you use the word promise …
No full moon yet, but a planetary lineup visible last night and for a few more…7 visible!
Seven planets in the solar system — Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune — will line up in the night sky Friday (Feb. 28) in an incredibly rare “planetary parade.”
There will be a partial blood moon (lunar eclipse) on the 14th, but only the initial phase will be visible in Europe, from 6 to 8 in the evening. By 7 we should be able to see something if the clouds allow.
