Full moons this year

It’s stunning this evening. It’s definitely very moony out there.

Yes! Just coming back from a short walk. I also haven’t seen the stars for a while.

Should be out watching tonight folks. Supermoon.

Currently being covered over by clouds coming over the Jura. Bummer, it was looking good.

Clear skies for many nights here, and an early rising, coming over the big mountains soon. I saw it at 5 this morning–very bright, just before setting.

It was up above the mountains this morning. As the sun hit the mountains, the moon hung right over the most dramatically-shaped one. People were stopped on the streets taking pictures of it!

Just after midnight on Thursday night/Friday morning, the Cold Moon super moon will rise. It will be the last super moon of the year, and the skies should be clear-- at least up here in the hinterlands. Unfortunately, rain is predicted for much of CH. Time to plan a getaway?

We’ve had many nights of a bright moon now waning, but the next two nights (13-14) will be clear enough to see the Geminid meteor shower peak:

I missed posting the January full moon for personal reasons. Tomorrow night we’ll see the Snow Moon shining bright on all the white fields and mountains, as clear skies are forecast.

If you’re awake at around 1 a.m. on Wednesday morning, you’ll see the Worm Moon rise and shine. It should be very clear here, but we will not be graced with the total- eclipse copper-coloured “blood moon” that North American will see. I was digging holes for finished hyacinths yesterday, and even here in the frozen north there were many active worms in the soil.

If you are up very early on Thursday, you can see the Pink Moon rise. After this week’s “back to winter” theme, we should have clear skies but still very cold. The lovely Ursula’s huge cherry tree has arrested development.

Early tomorrow evening the Flower Moon rises…and boy, is she rightly named! Lilacs, parrot tulips, fragrant narcissus, daisies, tree peonies, and rhodies all blooming now. This month we are blessed with a blue moon, also, on May 31. If you want to know the exact rising times, there is a link in the article to the Sky Tonight app.
