Hi, when are you moving? We have a nice solid and quality dining room furniture to sell that we bought in Germany and also sofas. It could save you the headache of looking:-)
Fust for electrical/white goods
Otto’s for furniture, sometimes white goods
Miscasa (Migros furniture/bedding)
Top Tip (Coop furniture bedding)
Aldi and Lidl also often have bedding and white goods in their weekly sales.
Check in the For Sale section in the Market Place part of the forum as lots of members here have all sorts of things for sale too.
Another place to try if you don’t mind second hand, but good quality stuff, is www.hiob.ch .
Before answering your question you should set expectations on what sort of budget you have as many of the options besies Ikea are significantly more expensive then both Ikea and what you would expect to pay coming from the UK
If you don't mind having second-hand stuff, you can always check the for sale section right here on EF. A lot of it is IKEA, but some of it is nice stuff that people bought less than 5 years ago and now they are leaving Switzerland and have to sell. You can also check ricardo.ch and tutti.ch. for second hand items. If you still want new, IKEA really is the least expensive.
Usually, there will be a washing machine provided in a laundry room, shared between a number of tenants, so it is not usual to purchase your own. Having said that, there are small models available which do not require any permanent connection to the electricity, water mains or drainage. If you are interested in a model which requires a permanent connection, you should consult with the owner of the apartment.
If you can get out to Basel and then over the border, www.inpunctowohnen.de/ is a good slightly-higher-class furniture shop without going crazy expensive.
It depends, if you are staying for a short time, you are better off buying second hand stuff or just getting it at ikea. Second hand stuff on tutti.ch are really good.
Otherwise Ricardo.ch is another place.
I recommend you try across the border too if you are looking for good quality furniture, Möbel Dick is a good start.
Otherwise we bought lots at Möbel Stumpp. They handled customs and delivery for us too.
For TV and electronics, you could try media markt or inter discount.
Thank you so much for all of the replies. The suggestions will really help me. I always prefer having a range of options. That way I'm sure I'll get what I need at the best price.
