I'm planning to buy some furnitures for my new place and wonder if it's worth the efforts to shop from Germany. What is your experience? Is there any recommended stores?
I bought most of my furniture from Ikea so I'm already familiar with it. I also visited Lipo/TipTop/möbelmarkt occasionally. In my impression Lipo/TipTop/Ikea are similar and cheaper compared to möbelmarkt. Is it worth the price for those expensive furniture in möbelmarkt? What are your favorite stores for furniture shopping?
In your case, based on the shops you mention, it's probably not worth the hassle. I buy all my furniture from a store in Germany called Seipp and for me it's worth it. Probably 25% cheaper and they deal with all the tax stuff and they deliver. It's expensive furniture to start off with, though. If you want to upgrade, I could certainly recommend them.
What's the equivalent store in Swiss that matches the level of Seipp? I briefly looked at their online store, seems in similar price range of Möbelmarkt?
Seems to me Möbel Pfister is cheaper than Möbelmarkt, at least for the dining table and sofa that I was looking at. Or you're talking about quality and Möbelmarkt is selling higher for lower quality?
Thanks, I'll take a look at this website. At first glance shopping furniture online seems quite challenging. You can easily tell the quality from the photo they provide...
Sorry, you are all wrong with your comparisons. A direct comparison to Seipp in Switzerland is Theo Jakob (or www.connox.ch , which I've just seen online)
If you're interested in shopping online I can recommend Home24. They have a wide range of stuff from cheap to decent quality.
We've bought a sofa bed - cheap and cheerful, but still better designed than the Pfister one we had to send back due to basic functional problems; and also desk/office furniture which is very good for a reasonable price.
But note please that, if you buy from Germany and furniture is defective, you might have an international hassle with replacement / returns. Do you want a headache to save a few bob?...
That said, we bought a nice danish design armchair ( it cost three times as much in switzerland) delivered from a french supplier. It was a single, expensive purchase, but well worth it. So by all means, if you have a healthy budget and you want something extra special and exactly what you wanted or dreamed of, i would widen my search for nice things beyond Germany.
You can get great deals on Tutti. We've bought almost all of our furniture there, much of it "like new." It takes a little research time, but it's been majorly worth it for us.
We have a combination of Möbelmarkt (Dogern), Fly.ch, Interio and Ikea... I guess it depends on what exactly you are searching (quality/design/budget/time).
As for German Möbelmarkt everything went well many times, no complaints. However you have to be ready to wait up to 10 weeks for delivery.
If you are around Zürich, perhaps take a look to Braun Möble (they have a shop just outside Konstanz or Singen). www.braun-moebel.de
It's not on the cheap side, but price/quality is pretty much ok.
I got my bedroom from there. Free delivery and montage and they took care about all import formalities. My final price was lower than the regular one (due to VAT refund).
